if their is anything resident evil tought us in games- is that you can do wonders with pre rendered background/foregrounds. you can make them animated (like a posh room with fire place, and fire animated with all the sutble flickers of light) and scroll across it. you can also use an actor as a movie screen, and animate a sequence forwards/backward as you move your character (which in actuallity is not moving, as it remains stuck infront of the screenboard) the limitation of this approuch is that the environment that has the 'moving through' animation, cannot animate elements like curtains blowing in the wind as you pass them. i made a crappy examle to show, its a side scroll, but you could just as eaily do a move forward/back version. it could be used to move you through the mansion from one shooting range to the next like time crisis.

- did this as a simple looksee to using a crappy throw together of two blender 3d renders. to see how to create a looping back drop like in odinspere (can't use repeat for ever and parellax as the layers will get left behind too much- must have been done in 3d, on planes)
