I would!!

draw_from, change scale and rotate

Postby pixelpoop » Tue Jul 24, 2007 9:53 pm

I know this has been talked about many times but I would really like a rotate actor feature and a proper scale feature.

Makslane has been nice enough to include a scale feature in the form of the draw_from function, but this just doesn't cut it. When working with a bunch of actors and clones of actors that all need to scale, using a canvas actor for this is a pain in the side.

What is needed is a function you put into the script editor of an actor that says:
scale(actor_name, %, resample)
Where actor_name == the actor to be scaled
% == the percent to scale the actor
resample == would be a 1 or 0, depending on if you want the image quality high/slow (resampled bicubicly) or low/fast (resampled using nearest neighbor).

and for rotate:
rotate(actor_name, degree, resample)

No, do it yourself!

In all seriousness, I think that advanced features like that will handicap your future progress as a programmer.

This feature should be less processor harsh then having large-sprite actors (with multiple frames)... Seriously though, the SNES system had this ability, as you can see by the actors getting pixelated when they move in the games that made use of it.

Well, I must agree with pixelpoop.
Such functions would save some resources and eventually optimize the size and speed of our "masterpieces" :)

I bought this program because I wanted to make games without learning programming, I wanted to concentrate on graphics. I thought that GE would allow me this freedom but I have found myself reading programming books everyday for the past 4 months.

It is merly impossible to do this whit coding you know, unless you would load the graphic in another sort of way an use a canvas actor to draw it, which would use more memory and lag more, I don't think thats quite handy.

I think being able to rotate actors would be great for sonic games when you go on loops or games where you floate in space. :D

I just saw some interest in this feature in the development section so I am giving it another bump so newer members may vote. my apologies for bumping.

I've votet, guys!
(yes, of course) :D
It would be sooooooooooooo great!!! And I think, those who are completely new would be more attracted by that feature, 'cause it's something which is used in many, MANY games, (like bike and car races).
Well, we have to give makslane some time, though. I think that he's working hard.

this matter's important!!!!

Help makslane to decide whether to add that feature or to leave it!

(PS: I actually wantet to make a Sonic game too, quite a while ago, It'll be impossible [or very, VERY hard] without that extra feature!)
