until now many of our goals have been reached.
but, I think, making GE compatible for Mac sounds rather like a big project that needs some time.
I'm sure makslane is doing his best. =D

Is there amy chance of an iPhone exporter any time soon? They've become very popular and i'd be very interested in releasing my games on it.

I don't think so.

At the moment it seems that the iPhone is very populair and so i say yes.

I want to make games for mobile devices and i love Game Editor.
Until now i am only able to port the games to WM devices, and not everyone wants a WM device.
And the export to iPhone would be a live saver!

The more possible ports, the better, esspecially the iPhone!

I'd like to be able to develop for any platform. Platform support can't come fast enough.

Found this recent article with some market trends for blackberry, palm and iphone.

(I'd still like to see palm os export, again)

For creating an iPhone Application, the most interresting thing for me would be a platform game made in GE and see if it can be made playable with:
Motion detection (left, right, up, down), handle Multi-Touch or track the user’s finger (for jump, and shoot) and trigger vibration in iPhone OS for the shocks when the player gets hit like on the modern gamepads for consoles.

I have played Monkeyball and it looked great! (it's 3D though) and plays soooo cool!
Also, there is a kind of gamepad available for these devices.

I think that Windows Mobile devices are neat, but the iPhone rules big time.
And the way i see it, is that the iPhone is now very much being Hyped, so why not join this.
Anyone looked at the iPhone appstore and how much it already is a succes?

I would like to see my game on there someday!

jcoggins wrote:I would like to see GE being able to port games for the iphone with several stipulations.

First, you need to find out if new releases for iphone need to be certified before they will be carried by major distribution channels. Getting a product certified can be an expensive process. For example, if you develope a game for the Symbian SmartPhone most of the major carriers will not even offer it for sale to their customers unless the game has been certified.

Secondly, there needs to be some kind of iphone simulator that runs on a PC. The simulator should be able to "dumb down" a cpu's speed to that of the iphone to give it realistic results (I do not know what speed the iphone's cpu runs at). This would mainly be used for testing by people that do not have an iphone to test the final version on.

Just a couple of thoughts,

Jason

The big problem is that the SDK kit for the iPhone is only for the Mac, wich can help with developing applications and games for the iPhone.
But GE is only for the PC, so i am not sure if this is gonna work. By exporting the game to file, it has to be uploaded to the device through FTP.

On the otherhand, if Makslane finds a way, it would open a whole new door for game-developers! (for mobile devices)
Everyone can already make and sell their applications and games on the App-Store of Apple.

Also, the SDK kit and other stuff of the iPhone is opensource, so everyone can develop applications or games for this devices.
Game Editor would be a big advantage for iPhone developers and i am very sure many people would be interrested in it.
Only i think that it would be easier if Game-Editor also would work on the Apple Mac.
This is easier with testing etc.

What do you people think?

I have post a bid request at rentacoder.com to hire a developer to make the iPhone port.
You can see the request here:

if it would work on the windows version many people would come to buy GE since right now there is no way to develope iphone and ipod touch apps on windows, either way its
Code: Select all
GE.popularity ++;
Working on a probably too ambitious project! Wild-west-adventure-RPG-shooter-thing.

Sure! The iPhone engine must works like any other engine in Game Editor:

1) Open the editor on Windows
2) Make the game
3) Choose the iPhone export
