the tournament generally, and for the contestants.
Really, the first tournament I noticed on this forum was the january one.
My first thought was: "OMG, how hardcore is that, only 1 month for making a game !?"
You, NightOfHorror, are on the right path, increasing the time a little.
But are 2 months really enough for a game, that deserves the term ?
I think, for most of us, not !
Here are some really experienced people around, they might come up with some
cool stuff even over weekend, while all less practiced ones are having problems
to reach their goal in the 2 months.
And what is a "game" at all ? Just the title screen, a more or less complete first
level, or at least 2 levels, or even a finished one ?
The january contest did show it, there was NOT ONE game submitted, the SABRE and
the Pharaoh's Secret Chamber are under development since months/years, the only
reason to accept them would be to show something done with GE on this forum, a
kind of advert, what the intention of this tournament is (and both did really well
in this context !).
My idea is, to make 2 kinds of tournaments, one for demos, and one for games.
The game-tournament should start at newyear, continuing over the whole year.
Every contestant has a timeline of 6 months, starting with his/her official joining.
That gives every one a good chance, to choose the best fitting half year, and the time,
to present something marvelous.
The shorter tournaments, 1 or 2 months are enough, only for demos.
Your last 2 themes were perfect for demos, showing some special game content, and how
to achieve it with GE.
Another thing is the presentation of the submitted demos/games. Since they are not
only meant as adverts, but also as howtos, you should only accept complete geds with
datas. When I'm wrong on this, please at least make sure, the Windows and Linux files
are both posted.
E.g., I haven't seen lcl's january contribution due to the missing Linux version, and
actually, CrackedP0t's Revolt on Linux only shows the both splash screens, and nothing
more (after the new upload!).
So, don't get annoyed here, just some thoughts I had to share, it's NightOfHorrors
thread, and he will know, how he wants to do it !
Cheers !

deadlines/efficiency.
My way of living is, to avoid any pressure, doing things if and when I'm in the mood,
and then I'm a great performer. But if I'm really in stress, I'm performing even better !
My idea for a longer time was, just to get more people taking part in the tournaments.
And a little inequality in the contest you have with both, longer and shorter timeframes,
whenever people are presenting their games, they were working on for a while.
But what's about the presentation with ged + data, or would that scare possible contestants
away ?
Your tournaments are great, any competition in this area would at most lead to a
fragmentation of the small user base here, so keep on with your engagement !
Cheers !
