Game Editor is not, like it's name suggest, a game editing tool. But you already know that.
Game Editor is a tool and a creation program. It allows inexperienced users to quickly pick up simple concepts and put them to run.
But simply by this, it is still very limited.
Where Game Editor really pushes power forward is when you use the full potential of C programming. For example my demo Space Traveler uses a lot of scripting (In fact only scripting) for a space ship editor and the game environment.
To change your Panel's opinion would be difficult because by what it seems, they were quickly drawn to a conclusion that they seem to stick with. Perhaps show them some of the bests demo's out there?
