Greetings!....just a quick question...

Postby MrManfranjansen » Mon Feb 25, 2008 7:43 am

Hello!
I think I have FINALLY found the program to do what I want to do. I'm so excited I can barely stand it! Anyway, I was wondering....does this software make it easy to work with a buddy to program a game? I mean, would it be possible for me to work on one piece and my friend to work on a different piece and then we'd combine what we've been working on to complete the game? I know this is a simplistic view, but I'd like to know if this is possible.

Very briefly, my friend has been making board games since the 6th grade. Many, many years ago he created a cool (space-themed) board game that I think would really work well on a PC. I thought splitting up the work might help speed things along...perhaps I could get the background artwork working and he could start working on the individual units. Then we combine our efforts somehow and voila! I hope I'm making sense.

Also, we'd like this to be a multi-player game....does this software do that, or is it mainly a single player platform? I can probably answer this question simply by reading more material, but I thought I'd ask here anyway.

Thanks a lot!

Yes it's possible to work as a team on the project. For instance the graphics can be created and saved separately from GE so long. Then when that's finished I'd say one person do the code. Plan as much as possible. That way the other person can also do code separately and it can be used in the original program.

Unfortunately GE doesn't have multiplayer support yet. Since it's a board game you can of course have multiple players on one computer, so that can be done.

Enjoy and good luck! :D It sounds like a fun project.

Excellent!

Thank you for responding! :)

Dang. I was really hoping to be able to do this, but since this project is barely just a thought at the moment, I shouldn't be too disappointed. Since you said multiplayer isn't available "yet" does that mean it is being considered for future releases of GE?

I hope so, then I would be able to make online games! You can do simple multiplayer using one keyboard, but currently I don't think there is a way to connect other computers though.

well, maybe small multiplayer games were possible if the game dropped variable packages on an external server accesable for both computers (would work only with lan connection, no internet.)
but I haven't tried that yet.
