Starting up as Indie Developer?

Postby TSO » Sat Oct 16, 2010 6:41 pm

Once a complete game is made.
Where do you start in getting into some markets?
What are requirements?
Any copyright issues?

Need to buy GE license first?
Can another person with the license put the game out?

Tips or places to start research?

Ok 1st there are some questions so I can answer your question specifically

1) What market are you aiming for ?
Before this version of game editor , I sold 4 games on windows mobile . I had to pay $99 dollars to game editor 1st before releasing my games into the commercial market . I see AKr has said you must pay $149 to release games with game editor 1.4.0

2) What market are you aiming for part 2
If you are going to make windows mobile games , there are places like mobi-hand or pocket gear where you can sign up as a developer for free and they take 30%.
For the Windows PC , I think you can submitt your games to windows marketplace 30% selling fee also. For iphone you have to pay to sign up as a developer $99 a year plus %30 fee.

3)Copywrite issues ?
There is no copywrite issues if you use your own original graphics and title. Please elaborate on your question.

4) Main requirments standards for all marketplaces
A) Your application has been tested on the device your selling for .
B) You will provide support to paying cliental .
c) You will provide a tax ID , so government can withhold taxes.

There is more but I need a specific question and I do my best to help.
Check out Momo AlienStarcatcher , featured in apples new and noteworthy and has 5 star reviews!!!

Krenesis is right.
You have to study the market first.
Then, you know where you go.

One thing, GE is very good for you.
I can say that I make some money from GE.
It's worth to buy it.

I had no specific question really.
Not sure what market GE games would appeal to other then maybe phones or perhaps some sorta shareware design on windows and w/e PC I could get on.......

What I didn't know was the cost as I'm flat broke >.>...

I'm reading up on GPL3 and I get the impression GE is free to sell or distribute as I like long as I give game with it's source and allow redistribution...
which I could understand not being most effect for a developer to make money... it's basically donation work...
Or did I get that wrong?

You can buy a license of Game Editor and sell your game without distribute the sources.
Game Editor is an open source game creator software that's wants to pay it's developers to keep evolving.
If you like Game Editor, make a review!
