Freeware?

Postby Riku » Mon Apr 21, 2003 11:20 pm

Is Game Editor freeware?
Because it says something about a Professional Version.
Do you have to buy the professional version?

You cannot export your games to .exe or anything else except the program's files. I tried that and a message appeared saying that I had to buy the proffeesional edition.

Postby lord Mattn » Wed Apr 23, 2003 4:21 am

so on your first version your going to make people buy so they can make .exe. not to be mean or to flame but you should lure peopel in it and let them get use to it make it evolve then trap people so they would want to buy. like mark overmars did with gm

There's nothing wrong with Mark Overmars' GM. I use it and it's great - I haven't bought it and I get the same effect. But I won't be using Game Editor for very long if I have to pay for it!

Damn, is there any place in this world where people is willing to pay what is worth for anything?

First, i do agree that they should tell people if they are going to release it as shareware and therefore you will need to pay.
Then, Mark Overmars haven't made GM shareware yet; i hope he makes it shareware because i'm getting tired of all the kids that yell at Mark when he has made such a powerfull and professional software, if they are not smart enough to get a benefit by selling what they can make with it, they shouldn't be using GM.
I think in exactly the same way here.

If Game Editor goes shareware, i might buy it because the multiplatform feature is extremely interesting. I hope this program continues being developed and gets as powerfull (or maybe even more) as GM.

I'll keep an eye on it

I can only partially agree with you, zurdopower..

What about people who doesn't have money, a VISA card, as they are under 15, for example..? (like me :-)

But you're right, there are too many lamers as well, who want to "change the world for a cent".. using warez and such.

If you don't have any money... you can't buy anything... then you can move to a socialist country... or accept you live in a capitalist world where you need money in order to get any stuff.

The creator is not supossed to give things free only because some people don't have enough money; If you can't afford it don't use it and that's all, world is not over.

if this product is as good as it sounds (and after working throught the tutorial it might just be) and the cross platform stuff works then these guys should sell it for sure.

I would go the trusting shareware approach. Don't disable any features though. I know this will encourage people to use it for free (how many of us pay for WinZip?) but those among us who really find it usedul and profitable to ourselves and who have any morals will shell out the doe.

I certainly would.

There's a number of products who specify personal, non-commercial use is free but if you make any money you have to pay a license fee, again sensible approach. if I have a great game idea, and make loads of money, you (game editor) should benefit.

And those who continue to use it for free will just spread the word of how great it is! Win win.

I have no problem paying for this great product. If you make a good game and release it it will pay for itself. If you don't plan to release anything you can still play your game by hitting Game Mode.

I've purchased alot of different development environments and this one was well worth it.

and if u do purchase GE, u get far MORE ways to compile your game and thus explore all kinds of supports ( Symbian, PDA, Linux and lots more...).

i don't think that u can get another shareware (especially something like GM which limits u to Windows OS ONLY) that lets ur moves so....FRee!

GE's just GReat!

As a guy who now knows a little about what it takes to put a program like this together( check out my feeble attempt below), I can accept the fact that he wants some money from it. I mean, these things take work, sweat, a lot of cursing, a lot of "well, i want it to work that way,so work that way argh!" , and a whole lot of time. But, being from where I'm from( south alabama---- america's third world) I can't afford to pay for anything, so I understand that side of the argument as well.
See, I could go and pay for all the software I wanted...or my wife and daughter could eat.....not a hard choice there...so, I have to rely on freeware.( and , oh yes....a better job is coming...:P)
My stuff, since I am making it for myself and could really care less who else likes it or not, will always be freeware.but if this guy wants to sell his work of coding art, then I am all for it....because it is a dang good program.
Dev c++ Isometric Engine project is on hold untill I figure out WxWindows..........
