advertising GE

of course we all know about copyright and that in most situations you must ask permission from the respected owners of a product before legally advertising their product. however, in situations where I've asked makslane if I could advertise ge (mostly like in billboards in my games) he has happily granted me the permission. I wanna know, do the users of ge need permission at all, or could we freely advertise without having to ask in every situation?
