How can I make a menu?

Hello, I'm making two different games, one like space invaders and another similar to mario but different. I'm new to this program, well to making games. I want to know how to make a menu for a game? like before I start, or any other menu. Thanks in advance.

Edit: Okay, I'm making a space invader like game, I need help with how to do the menu off of the super mario game, on how to do animaion sequences, different levels, and when to change levels, and when I die I want a menu to pop up. thanks in advance.

i can help with some of that for pop up menu make a menu actor um lets call it diepopup or go actor control (on diepopup) =>
go to Create Actor-/add action => Visibility state=> change "state" to disable.......ok now go to ur "player" or "person" and go to Destroy Actor-/add action => Visibility State=> change actor to diepopup and change state to enable.
and there now when ur player dies a popup menu will "pop-up" also for changing levels r u gonna have boss at end of each lvl?

Thanks, no, I want to make a boss after 5 levels, but idk how I would go about doing it. I only want 5 levels and boss in my game. seems like a lot to me for now, and thanks for the info. How can I make have more than one hit. (this is more for space invader like game)

Edit: Okay, I tired to make the pop up, but still unable to. I may be doing something wrong. How can I make it where I have three lives? Right now I have two, I have two by creating another spaceship exactly like my other one, so when first spaceship gets destory other one appears ( I want to make a delay or some message saying I lost a life).

Yea I'll stick to it, I don't want to download much images, I would more of like to make them (so it's more of my game). I haven't started the Mario Game.

Yes but honestly that was good but I dont like the way it was coded. Its very restrictive as far as enemy movement. But its good for beginners to learn.
