Built-in tutorials problem.

Postby clock » Thu Jul 28, 2011 2:34 am

When I try to get the newest tutorials an error pops up saying "A internet connection cannot be established. Please, try again after connection" yet when I click check for updates firefox opens up to a page that says I've got the newest version of GE.

So I'm a little miffed that I can't update the tutorials even though I'm connected to the internet and my firewall isn't blocking GE. Is there any way I can fix this?

All the tutorials there are you should already have. When you downloaded gameEditor it comes with three sets of tutorials, and those are pretty much the only gedt tutorials. For user made tutorials, you'll have to download or read them from the website. Here are some of them.

I appreciate the link. However the point is that if the official tutorials are updated then it would be impossible for me to update them using the get newest tutorials. Which arguable isn't that big of a deal but it still is something that irks me.

The reason I clicked it in the first place was because whenever I ran the first one for making the view follow an actor an error would pop up saying something about the parent of an actor cannot be one of it's descendants. The tutorial would go about it's business as if nothing happened but as the mouse moved about like it was doing something no menus would open up.

That issues though, seems to have cleared itself up before I posted this topic which is why I didn't mention it in my first post.

Support for those kind of tutorials is lost. Infact GE shouldn't be able to use them at all but that wasn't though of by the creators. Tutorials will never get updated either.

I recall someone making videos of those tutorials... so they wouldn't really die

Yes. Tutorials can't be updated. But I cared for all existing tutorials to work in 1.5. Its complicated. Because GE needs to check which version
they were created and cut down any new dialogs (like the new actor dialog) to a size to match the mouse click positions. I found it very important
to keep the tutorials like space invaders, platform-game and much more. These tutorials were very handy for me getting into ge the first time.
