Hmm, it seems that running in XP compatability mode has made things a lot better, but I am still getting the odd crash when exporting. Before, when I ran it without xp mode it crashed almost every time, now it's rare but does still happen.

Oh you mean the virtual machine thing? hmm, yeah win7 ultimates the only thing that has that. i meant by right clicking the file, going to properties, then clicking compatibility.

Try different format, like Wav. you can convert your mp3 to wav with audacity. Also you can try to reduce to minimum file size. To do so put your wav in 8 bit mono.

Good luck.

Nah no need for that. Theres other audio formats, besides it turns out that it wasn't the OGG. WAV is the largest possible music file :P

Perhaps another key to the puzzle? -

Hblade and I have both had our games be blocked by a malware threat by avira. I know for sure that my computer has no malware on it because I scan it every week. Nor am I the least bit smart enough to engineer any malware of any kind! Nor would I want to for that matter.
We are both on Windows 7, and we are both getting a crash from GE.

This leads me to two theories:

1: The .ged is getting corrupted during export, causing it to be suspicious to some programs.
2: The files are being corrupted by the site's file upload javascript. Lots of people have been having trouble with it lately.
3: Problem with zipping, or compressing. This would not direct the problem at exporting.

This should be tested some way. Since Kodo's been having this export problem too, he could post an .exe and someone with avira could test it. That way, it could be proved/disproved. We also need to know what file compressing utility is used. My file in question was zipped with 7zip.

This may be lead to more clues, or it could lead to more questions. I hope this is at least somewhat useful.

Thing is, I didn't have any antivirus prior to this export error. However, your theories are great

For the malware problem, the fault here is the anti-viruses. They are getting more severe on what kinda of code is good and bad. Since there are exploitable's in GE that could potentially freeze your computer and crash it. The anti-virus sees these (Being api's I think...) and tells you the program contains a malware, even though it doesn't in reality. It actually means that the way the program was compiled is similar to the way malwares are compiled.

And for windows 7, it's probably the window's kernel's problem as I recall this problem happening years ago on vista

That's Interesting, I never would of thought that those .exe's were created in a similar fashion.
Like I said, Vipre doesn't have any problem with it. And this guy blocks EVERYTHING even windows components (In "Learning mode). Now, I'm starting to think that avira is more reliable, and more sensitive; maybe too sensitive, or maybe just paranoid. :P

Any way, It's a problem. I don't want to direct friends and relatives to this site if they think we are going to spy on them. Oops, oh um, I already did.

In that case, it could be the default windows firewall that crashes it.

The problem with blaming a firewall (for me anyway) is that it doent always crash, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt, also it didnt crash when I was using XP and the same firewall.

I have noticed that the problem only seems to occurr on large/complex games and it seems to get worse if you have lots running. I can shut down all other programs and export for a while, but if I repeatedly export over time it begins to crash every attempt. A system restart seems to sort the problem out for a while. Smells like a memory problem to me.

I suspect that we are in fact covering a couple of sepeate problems in this thread. One to do with exes's being recognised as malware and one where GE itself is crashing when exporting the game. As far as a firewall goes, I'm using Comodo and that has no problems with GE at all.

My system: Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit), 3Gb RAM, Intel 2.01 GHz Duel Core processor.
