Game-editor splash screen?

Postby pizbi » Sat Jul 31, 2010 6:11 am

you know how it says "powered by game-editor" how do I make it do the same thing but after another splash screen?
or how do I make it say something like "(title of game) was made with game-editor"?
and is it possible (say on credits) it shows the "powered by game-editor" but a small version as moves upward along with other credits?
or do I have to do that stuff by myself?

1. Get the GE pro license to get rid the default splash screen
2. Make your own splash screen

Even with pro license, you still have to send your game to Makslane to get him to remove the splash screen. Seems like you'd have to do that every time you had to recompile your game, even for bug fixes and minor updates, etc. I wonder how long you'd have to wait to get your unsplashed version back each time?

Right...
What kind of silly rule is that???
Well, didn't mean to tease...but we need to protect our game source as well :(

You dont need to send the game sources.
Only the exported files.
Game Editor is an open source game creator software that's wants to pay it's developers to keep evolving.

After doing some quick research on Game Creators for Iphone, I have some pricing comparisons:

GameSalad: indie $499.00 USD/Year, Pro $1,999.00/Year. Pro allows selling of games in iphone app store, Indie does not.
AppMakr: Free(limited time), Pro $999.00. Only Pro includes placement in iphone app store.
App Creator: $567.00/Year. Includes placement and hosting.
AppWizard: $99.00 /Month. Details weren't clear.
Iphone's SDK: $99.00 + 30% of the profits.
iTorque 2d: $999.00. Does not include store placement.

So compared to other Iphone creator kits, GE is still pretty expensive, and does not include the hosting or publishing controls that most others do. It also requires a $300.00 license for the SDL, which is not optional. SDL is already in the new GE and you will have to pay them too.

If like many of us, you have no interest in iphone or iphone development, then the comparison to windows game creators:

Game Maker Pro $25.00
Torque 2d $300.00
DarkGame Studio $49.99
Game Editor: $99.00/Year + $300 SDL.

For now, I will continue my development with GE 1.3.9.

We have a prototype of the new game-editor 1.5. Awesome features. You are welcome to participate the Beta. Will inform u.

The new features will affect all plattforms. At least a indie license of 1.4 will be required.

I will soon post new demos made with the new engine.

Hi All,

This is not fair and make me sad.
I have tried several business model in Game Editor before and no one works.

Now, we have a model thats any user can use Game Editor in all levels (open source, free games, ...) and still not good for the users.
If you sell a good game, U$99,00/year is nothing.

If you want just make game for fun, I think show the Game Editor splash screen is nothing for you to support the Game Editor development.

What I want with this new license is a model thats allow anyone can make a game.
If is not enough, sorry, I don't know what can I do.

99$ a year is a decent price. I would have no problem with that price except

it's not 99 $ a year, because we'd still have to purchase the SDL - which no one will give us a straight answer on. In fact, they don't even have to sell it to you. Their site says 'email us'. So I might make a game with it and then they won't sell me a license and then what? All that work into the game....

Also, i think the splash screen should be changed, because to sell a game and make it look professional, you'd want your own company splash screen. If i bought a game and it said 'Made with Game Maker' and had a yoyo logo in the startup, I would immediately assume that it was not a professional game, and would go into the game with that mindset.

The splash screen is advertising....it is worth some money to you. How about for an extra $50 bucks a year, you allow them to remove/replace the splashscreen? If 50,000 people play my game and i ran Google ads on the page, It'd probably make about 50 bucks.

And the sending in the levels thing, that isn't going to work in the long run, IMHO. It's a step in the development process that's in someone else's hands, on someone else's time frame.

In all fairness to the Windows game creator comparisons,

1. Game Maker is a simpler tool than Game editor, and the complexity of the games it produces, the event handling, and the output platforms are nothing compared to GE - GM is worth about 1/4 of what GE is. So there, the 99$ is more than reasonable.

2. If you load a large spritesheet in Torque (>2048 pixels) the program will give you an error, and then immediately crash. There is no recovery option. In GE i commonly use sprite sheets up to 5,000 pixels. I have never been impressed with Torque.

Adding OSX capability is huge. Hats off to GE for doing that.

In the end, I want Game Editor to always be here, and whatever Makslane has to do to make that happen, then so be it. But these new rules aren't going to be popular with anyone.

C'est La Vie.

Well, actually my main problem in the 1.4.0 is not the pricing, but the bugs...since I still have no job to pay them :P
I have posted a new bug I found here
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8834&start=0
makslane wrote:I don't know what can I do

Fix any bugs found. This is not for me, but for everyone else...
Don't let any user find any bug on any platform.
At least it will make that pricing worth

Total agree. I don't mind with the splash screen as long as it won't give me trouble.
Although I can have the pro license to get rid of it, but I want to keep the splash screen on my game. I want to help advertise GE.
But I also request you to change it to be more pro looking.

We didn't mean to hurt maks, sorry for that.
We just want GE to be better (bugs free for me, pricing for Dee).
If we don't like GE, we would left it long time ago...but we're not.
We're still here. Complaint you, report you the new problem, give you more idea...
That's all for supporting you. But yes, we have our own way to express it. And sorry if it hurts you

Wait, does "platforms" refer to the export exe's, or the version of game editor? are you saying my version 1.3.9 is now subject to the new rules?

Please clarify. I have no interest in iphone so new iFeatures do not affect me.
