Hey, Buddy!

A J2ME version would be great! And a Symbian version too! They could reach a lot more users than just an iPhone version.

I know. J2ME is in my task list.
The point is the iPhone port will be easier.

does anyone know of any statistics for how many people use iPhones vs. J2ME phones for gaming? I'm thinking J2ME phones already have a huge user base, on the other hand iPhones are really taking off. I don't have an iphone, are their games for it already?

Hmmmm I thought that games on the iPhone was made using DHTML or something and that proper games can't be made for it yet? However I read that when the phone came out so I don't know if that's still the case.

I say no to the iPhone for now however.

It's great that Game Editor supports so many platforms but I still think that it will be better to add functionality to the current platforms instead of porting to even more platforms. I think that after some added functionality it will be worthwhile to reach to other platforms.

Currently I can't wait for variable bitmap font width (since that would just about complete my game) (now I have to work with speech bubbles and such things because of its absence). Rotation would also be amazing. As would multi-player and so forth...

If it's going to be really quick to implement the iPhone, then yes, sure. However Game Editor lacks some features which would make life a lot easier.

So my vote is no for now.

I do agree with d-soldier here, I’d like to see gp2x exported games running better first if possible. Also, the J2ME market is already massive and will probably remain more popular than the iphone for many years simply because of its price, personally in preferred order I’d like to see…

1. Improved GP2X performance
2. J2ME support
3. iPhone supprt

There would be a plus side to doing iPhone first though, for Makslane anyway. Because the iPhone is big in the press at the moment, if GE was able to export games for it Game Editor could gain massive worldwide exposure, increasing sales of GE greatly, which to be honest would be good for all of us!

GE for the iPhone would be good because it is new, and everyone will want one, then a lot of people will go searching for games. You might be able to sell games faster. Besides, the more platforms the better

Another platform to develop games for, even though I don't own one yet and probably won't for some time (pocketPc myself), I say go for it. The emulator some one stated about earlier would be nice too for those who don't have the platform available to test on.

Hi Makslane!

It has been quite a while since I've been on the forum (lots going on in my life that keeps me away from programming), but I got your email and I'd like to respond to your question about the iphone. Yes, I'd love to see some GE development in the Mac direction. I wonder if GE would then work on a Mac? I've been using a MacBook for a while now and I like the OS very much. I rarely even use Windows any more. So if iphone GE would also work with Mac, that would be wonderful. If not, I still think it would be a great idea especially considering that we now also have the new touch screen ipod.

Good to get your email. :D

I see my post was lost with some error in the forum, but in a word: YES
Game Editor has the multiplatform spirit that is a dream for developers, since we don't actually have to learn the differences between them, or we do more precisely what is called "abstraction".
Add as many hardware platform as needed, I will upgrade. The clear advantage for developers is the lack of readapting or reimplementing the game for each type of operating system. So the cost is lower than learning each platform each time.
And with new devices each year, sure new users will look for games, and luckily wil purchase something.
