How do you associate the .ged file extension with Windows XP

Postby SuperSonic » Tue Jan 31, 2012 6:40 pm

I know I did it once but it no longer works. I think the problem was that I tried to change it so that ged files would open with GE 1.5 prototype. Bad idea xD. Anyways, do any of you guys know how I can fix this? :D

Do you mean the .ged file with gE 1.4? You might try using the recovery using the .undo file. Worst case you might be able to send it to akr or makslane to recover it.

Lol, that's not what I meant^^

You know how you can open some files on your computer by double clicking on them? I want to know how to do that. Like I said, I was able to get it to work before with GE 1.4 but then I tried to change it so that it would open geds with GE 1.5 and now it no longer works :D

Ah, then can't you right click, select properties, and then change the open with to your program? You should be able to browse for other programs, and select the gE version you want.

No, whenever I do that, and double click on a ged file, it opens GE but it opens a blank game. I think I may have reset something at one point by accident =/

Odd, offhand I can't think of anything that would cause that. Since gE still comes up it would seem that it's a gE side problem, but I don't know of any change that could prevent loading from working. Perhaps downloading gE again, or trying with other geds?

It's pretty nice, though I tend to prefer icons without those types of borders.

Try opening command prompt and type

assoc .ged=GameEditorFile

and hit enter.
