A question on beginner-friendliness.

Postby EternalWow » Mon Apr 20, 2009 6:50 am

As the title says, I would like to know about how easy it would be for a beginner to both coding and the software to get the hang of the flow of everything. I'm running Linux, and there aren't that many options for things like this that I feel comfortable using, so I'm hoping that this will be both a tool I can use and maybe even learn from (regarding programming, though I do grasp variables and strings and the loops/statements that go with them).

So, anyway, I just need to know if prior experience with something would actually be required or if it would just make things easier.

Not at all, gameEditor is very easy to learn. I started out with less experience than you, only used the built in functions. Developed from there learning C as I went. I now have a good grasp of gameEditor and how to use it. The only scripting actually necessary is that if you are branching out of built in concepts. Since you get variables, you are already ahead of the game. Also, the forums can help you on pretty much any problem. The main thing to do when you are just starting out is learn the built in functions. You can do this by either making a game or messing around with the demos or anything you find on the forums.

Oh, thanks! Using Linux sometimes leaves me with few options for the software I can use, and this is a MASSIVE help to me! I'll get started with that when I have my sleep cycle 100% back to normal! ^_^

I find that hard to believe. Linux is hugely filled with thousands of variants for programming.
