PPC problem on WM5

Postby irblinx » Thu Aug 31, 2006 10:24 pm

I have only tried this on a WM5 device so I don't know if it also affects the older OS.

There's seems to be a serious memory leak issue with exported games on PPC, after a long playing session (30 mins) the game crashes due to insufficient memory on the device, having run fine with plenty of memory at start up.

Actually It happens on every game, including the one that Steve is working on at inogames (Firetop Mountain).

It is an issue that a lot of older programs have had with WM5, there's loads of info about it on Micosoft dev forums IIRC and pretty much all of the well known PPC apps had to be upgraded to truly support WM5 and cure this problem.

If you need a specific example I'll have to put a working game together from the projects I've got in development at the moment (I'm not on my laptop so it'll be over the weekend)

This may be of some use;

I found loads of blogs and forum postings mentioning issues seen with WM5 by doing a Google search but the app at the link above is supposed to be able to detect the leaks?
