Nova Beta Complete: Testers Needed

Finally! The beta version of Nova is complete. I am looking for bugs, advice, and comments. I plan to release this game commercially, so you are not allowed to copy or distribute the files, and eventually I will take the file off of free downloading, but I felt like the forum has helped me a lot and deserves to play it. Special thanks to Kalladdolf for helping with the music! After working on and off for two years on this, I feel like I should write more, but...I'll let the game do the talking.

EDIT: Go here for the fixed Alllevels file which will fix the freezing on level 6. Once I have time I will upload a fixed installer too.

love the graphics, the only thing i dislike about it are no lives = kinda hard

Wow, its amazing! You can put in the background planets and you can make the background color little bit darker, maybe you
can make it black, not light black, and make more lives.

It is supposed to be hard...And I agree about the background being boring, but I haven't come up with a good way to spice it up. Only three people have downloaded it! I know it's 25 mb but it is a pretty complete game.

I like the whole game and it's challenging.
Maybe you should only make the first few levels a little easier in order not to get the player too frustrated at first.
I barely managed the first level. The second not at all. I had to cheat through it.
Now, the game gets really interesting once you have more powerups, weapons and the enemies get more complicated. I love that!
Just let the player... get there.

I still don't know...I don't think it is that hard, but that is probably because I have played it so much. I will consider making it easier...

Oh, when I beat the whole of level 6 and was supposed to reach the boss, the whole program just... collapsed and I had to strangle it with the task manager.
Is that just because it's a beta and you're not quite done with it, or is it supposed to... go on?

First of all, congratulations on getting so far. I am still trying to figure out why in the world it freezes right there. The rest of the game is there, it just freezes at that point for some unknown reason. As soon as I figure it out I will let you know and post a fixed version. you will probably want to move your save files over.

I've encountered a small problem ( I don't know if it's the game or just my computer) but I couldn't remove the icon for the game from the start menu.

I have no idea about that...there is probably some way (Add/Remove Programs?) to do it. Did you try to uninstall it or what?

no, I just shoved it off the start menu by getting other programs to appear there.

I have some bug reports to make *swatted*:
1) The Xpods don't always work. Sometimes you can't shoot them even if you have selected the right weapon and press "space".
2) The same goes for the ice ray (that weapon rocks, by the way).
3) You might want to get rid of the mouse and make the boss music loop.

Also, may I inquire what resolution you use? 640x480?
I might have a few ideas for the background.

I find the game to be rather hard. could you add an extra life or two?

Detailed information about the weapon issue: The freeze ray only works in level 4 and the menu. Xpods only work in level 5, 6 (sometimes) and menu.
