This would be a boon to Dreamcast fans, to have a runtime that could run GE games on the console. The only thing we've got besides pure C is Fenix to write games with, and the latter is very slow and buggy :(

Probably no chance, but it seems like it would be an easy port, since the console has had many homebrew games ported to it. Comments?

I loved this console!

As far as i know the Dreamcast also uses Windows CE to make development for games easier.

This way people could make their own homebrew applications, games and make a port of games to the console very easy etc.

So it should be very possible, but i dont know if Makslane sees an future for making an export to this console.

Not many devs used the built-in CE to make games, unfortunately. The Fenix scripting language makes use of SDL for its graphics and sound capabilities, but the games you're able to make are fairly limited. In any event, I like hacking around with Fenix and testing its limits. Once my new DC arrives (my old one finally died after seven years), I'll be playing around a bit and pushing its limits to see what I can do. I think due to the fact that it's a scripting language scares off potential homebrewers, as it would be just another language for someone to learn.

I think something like Game Editor would be a boon for Dreamcast homebrew, as people could learn the software without having to write any code, and learn its advanced capabilities later. I've contacted a few authors of other game design software about this same subject, and due to various limitations (a few of the programs are written using Delphi), they would be unable to port their runtimes to the DC. Seeing that the GE runtime was ported to the GP handheld kinda sparked the idea in my head again.

Ahh well. I just wanted to get a few opinions about this idea. If I had the time, talent, and patience to learn C better, I'd write something to do this very thing. But being a 36 year old man with a family to support, it's just not in the cards, unfortunately.
