Vista Problems with Export

Postby Virgil » Sat Aug 14, 2010 10:42 am

All of a sudden I'm getting the dreaded export crash with the 'Program has stopped working' message. Tried diffferent compatibility settings like run as xp with sp2 and run as admin and sometimes it clears and then comes back. Happens often after changing sound files; might be connected, I don't know. Problems appear when running 1.4 on my Acer Aspire 5536 laptop on Vista Home Premium.
When running in XP on my horrible little Advent Milano netbook it works flawlessly. Absolutely dumbfounded!!
Anybody else having Vista problems? :(

Yes I have vista and yes there are problems. My game editor program wont crash but will say not responding. Ok when you export and it says not responding , just wait it will export it after a minute. Make sure to save often when you program, that way when it crashes , you wont be left far behind.

The same thing happened to me on Windows 7, which never happened on XP. It somehow solved itself, either that or it may have been to do with the fact that I gave my exe. the same name as my ged. file and saved it in the same folder.
Current projects:
Techno-Tank Arena: on hold
Techno-Tank SuperPortal (working title): 0.1%
Bowels of Galaxies: 35% (was a bit too optimistic)

I've been saving the exe in the same folder as the ged. Never thought it would cause a crash having a different extension but anything is worth a try. Might give it a go. I can't understand why it works so well on xp.
I stopped using GE a year or two ago because of the crashes and then 1.4 comes along and here we go again!
Really frustrating after spending a couple of evenings making a game and then it all goes pear shaped. Luckily I can copy the files to the xp machine and carry on with no problems/crashes.

Using a separate folder for executables. So far,so good. Fingers crossed.

I'm Vista also and had those export crash problems.

After trying different locations to export, it finally worked, but there are bugs
in the exported version. Like objects actors have moved and points are not counting...

I don't see the point of programming games if you can't export them, so is Vista
responsible for this ? ( That wouldn't surprise me alot )
Does 1.4 do the same ?

In reply to Maxeditor the 1.4 version runs pretty damn smooth and I've had no issues apart from export which is now solved by exporting to a separate folder.
I'm running Vista Home Premium on an Acer Aspire 5536 laptop. I have had a few crashes with the 1.39 version but the 1.4 runs without problems.
DBgames, yeah I think Vista is a total screw up, and wondering if Win7 has got it all sorted.
