Votes for my next game!

Talk about making games.

Votes for my next game!

Postby pyrometal » Sat Jul 26, 2008 1:06 pm

Hey guys! I'm basically done boot camp for the summer, only 4 days left! So I was thinking that I should create a new game when I come back, most likely a plateformer cuz that's my style! But I need some input for a few of its characteristics since I can't decide... So I want you guys to vote on a few things to help me decide! Here they are:

Story:
- (1) Has a story to follow.
- (2) Doesn't have a story.

Mapping Style:
- (1) Exploration (Metroid style map, non-linear)
- (2) Levels (Super Mario style maps, linear)
- (3) A combination of the previous two

Unit Block Dimensions:
- (1) 16x16 pixels
- (2) 20x20 pixels
- Current resolution is set for 320x240 pixels

Style:
- (1) Puzzle (More like maze exploration / problem solving)
- (2) Shooter (More like Megaman)
- (3) Pick-up and throw (More like Super Mario Bros 2)
- (4) A Combination of these...?

Game Length:
- (1) Playable in one day
- (2) Playable in a few days

Game Pace:
- (1) Slow pace
- (2) Normal pace
- (3) Fast pace!

Thanks in advance for voting! Please include category names and select options!

I have two words for you...MORE MAZEMAN!!!

seriously, you already have the template, it's a fun and innovative idea, and i've been waiting since you released the demo for more of it.

lol, from these answer I'm deducing I'll have to vote off everything myself! I don't know if I want to continue Mazeman since its so horribly complicated to design levels for... We'll see...

Hi pyro, good to see you back.. :)

my votes are below, but really it depends on your target audience ? casual gamer or game player ?

any how..personaly i like a good story \you can get into and "variety" of game play otherwise it gets boring...
some of the very linear run and jump games are pretty much like playing tetris to me... :?

so base on that
story:
- (1) Has a story to follow. ( or at least have a good background story )

Mapping Style:
- (1) Exploration (Metroid style map, non-linear) (makes it more interesting challenging and has replay value)

Unit Block Dimensions:
- (2) 20x20 pixels (I personally like more detail)

Style:

Puzzle (More like maze exploration / problem solving)
Shooter (More like Megaman)
Pick-up and throw (More like Super Mario Bros 2)
- (4) A Combination of these...... ( with multiple ways to get thru it.. ie shooting works so does throw so does stealth and puzzling your way thru.. once again for replayabilty.. as you work out when you can use up ammo, or when best to save it for alter levels..

Game Length:
- (2) Playable in a few days

Game Pace:
- (2) Normal pace
- (3) Fast pace!

both :D ie: normal pace with some very hectic sections getting more hectic as the game progresses..

hope that helps... keep in mind thats only my playing style

cheers

OK! Thanks a lot for your opinions once more! Here is what I decided to do!

Story: (1) Has a story to follow.

Mapping Style: (3) A combination. (yes, I can make this work)

Unit Block Dimensions: (1) 16x16px. (cuz I'm not great at graphics...)

Style: (4) A combination of (1) and (2).

Game Length: (2) Playable in a few days.

Game Pace: (1), (2) and (3)! Game will start slow, then speed up eventually.

I've already started btw! I'll post a demo when I feel it shows promise! ttyl all
