Android Devices

Postby akr » Sat Nov 26, 2011 10:24 am

If anyone is interrested to develop for Android you should consider the

Huwei Ideos U8150

I just purchased this device for €99 and its fantastic!

-Android 2.3
-Good performance

I have to say, its comparable to my HTC desire. And the HTC was much more expensive.

Android support is targeted for this year. Geplayer for Android comes soon. Will make use of the Android compatibility mode. Thus a lot of devices supported
and u can reuse your iphone games.

This will be available in the $99 commercial edition of GE.

That's great news!
I have an android phone and I would like to sell my games.
Is it true that I have to pay 99$ every year for the express license?
And what's the difference between express license and professional license?

Also, when the Android port is ready, and I sell my games, will everyone who buys my game also need to get the geplayer?

And what if I wouldn't like to sell my games, but give away for free, can I do this with
open source license? If, how? What I must do?

Thanks in advance and good luck with the development! :)

-> We are currently looking for some minor changes. But the $99 is true. Yes.

And what's the difference between express license and professional license?

-> Today the difference is the splash screen.

Also, when the Android port is ready, and I sell my games, will everyone who buys my game also need to get the geplayer?

-> Nooooo. As I mentioned 1000 times. Geplayer is a app to test your datfile on the phone. This is done by "downloading" it to the phone without recompile.
Geplayer is for devices testing purposes only. A separate project will be available for the final app.

And what if I wouldn't like to sell my games, but give away for free, can I do this with
open source license? If, how? What I must do?

-> No. For Android a commercial target will be required.

Thanks in advance and good luck with the development! :)
Thx

Thanks, akr, that cleared the things for me. :)

Still one more question.
Let's say I get the GEplayer and create few games with it.
And then next year, I get the GE license and start selling those games in the android market.
Now, when the year changes again, do I need to pay the license again for being able to continue selling my games?

Yes, thats how it is. Right now it looks like that we will sell the Android target as a stand-alone project also. Thus platform independent.

What would the steps be to get my game to work on Android? Like I mentioned before I come from a 3D artist background so technical stuff like this to me has to be explained a little more step by step. Sorry for being the guy with the dumb questions. :(

You can follow the current progress on my twitter ____akr____

Or on game-editor.net

What platform are u working on? Would you be able to install the android sdk and to do start "ant"?

That will be the way apps will be built. Not clear yet if we offer a service.
