This game is tough. I didn't even manage to beat the first level. But I'll practice. And it is very intense, as I assumed, according to gameplay videos.
I like the design, robotic sounds, I like that game gets tough quickly, so it is a challenge.
I have a suggestions and a questions.
Maybe the lady, or any other item you collect, could spawn every time on different place when level begins.
Number of killed robots doesn't reset when I start a new game. Is it a bug, or it should be that way?
Nice game, Zivouhr. :D Keep developing it, and I'll do my best to give an honest opinion, as I did now, so you can have an objective insight / preview of your game, and make it even better. :D Keep up the great work!

Thanks Koala for testing it out! 8)

Yes, until I added the 4 way firing option to strafe while running in the other direction, I couldn't get past a certain level myself. Agreed, Robotic Downfall is a tough game much like Frenzy or Robotron were of the Arcades.
The demo version only has the first level. You'll know you beat it when it loops back to the Title screen for the demo version.

The top icon score (tiny text score) is of the total robots destroyed and autosaves that score when your character contacts a robot. As long as the save file and the game file are in the same folder, it will track your total bots destroyed over the course of many levels and plays. Other than that, it's just a small indicator of your battle against the robot armies and the time you've invested.

The lower red bot icon resets with each new game.

For the lady, if waiting 8 seconds, she'll respawn in a random location every play, but at first she'll always start there in the corner. I didn't want her to spawn directly onto the player when the game begins, so that was the one reason I kept her there for 8 seconds before finding a new random spot to reappear in.

Thanks for your constructive feedback; it's appreciated!

I was able to add a description of those icons on the opening title information screen this way the gamer will know what that top red bot icon represents; in this case, total Bots destroyed. Then Lives, then current bots destroyed.

Here is the new promotional trailer of Robotic Downfall for PC, Mac and Linux available soon for your desktop gameplay.

Zivouhr wrote:UPDATE: May 14, 2015 ROBOTIC DOWNFALL THE GAME IS COMPLETE!
Robotic Downfall is pretty much completed at this stage with everything in place as planned, and the major glitch has been eliminated thanks to revised coding dependent on the view, timer and move to codes, rather than a move to code alone dependent on the player's collision with the 10th item per level when moving the player to the next level. On rare occasions, he wasn't appearing at all in the next level, so it was critical that I figure something out. Linking it to the view, which is a strong constant in the game, instantly the reliability went to 100% compared to before, to my relief. Now he appears every time as planned.
This time, I decided to let the player choose to play music or not at all, and just hear the sound effects.
I was also able to add 3 cheat codes that are revealed upon completing the game 1 time. The second playthrough also rewards you with a new powerful weapon. The cheat codes I will reveal for those unable to get through the game due to its difficulty, which I'll admit, took me bit of effort and skill to master and complete the game without any cheats. The 4 way shot is critical to success, set up much like Robotron's dual controls. I'd set it up with a PS3 controller, but unfortunately, my programming skills in that department are still developing and I have to move on to other art projects at this time. The Robotic Downfall game will appear soon in its final form.
So this game will have pretty much everything. :)

 Not quite everything, but as much as I could pack into this arcade style game with the time I had.

Robotic Downfall Arcade Inspirations:
Below is the Arcade game Frenzy that Robotic Downfall was inspired by. The games are quite different in gameplay, but the cool looking sprites and general idea of a lone human against enemy robots was the main inspiration, since in Robotic Downfall the bots use their numbers to overwhelm the player, rather than laser shots as in Frenzy and Berzerk.

Here is Robotron. An 8 way shooter Arcade game. The game was set in an open arena, while Robotic Downfall is set in a maze. Robotron is much more difficult IMO to conquer, as tough as Robotic Downfall can be.

FEEDBACK: I really don't have anything bad to say about "Robotic Downfall". I like the game. :D Good controls, nice response. I like the graphics and sounds. And the most important thing in every game is idea. This game has an original concept, as far as I know. Yes, I know some other games inspired gameplay but still this is genre that you don't see often, and the game itself is unique. :D
Great job, as always! 8)

Thanks Koala, I appreciate it. Thanks for playing. :D

It was a fun side project game. While I believe originality is important, it won't always equal a fun game. So this time, I just wanted to make a fun blaster game and see if I could do it with the limited free time I have when not working on freelance art, work, etc. Game Editor made it possible. 8)

Here's a cheat code if you need it:

ROBOTIC DOWNFALL CHEAT CODES:

Thanks. I figured not everyone might have time to practice getting through till the end of the game, so to ensure they have a chance to experience the ending, a cheat code was a good option aside from changing the difficulty, which I didn't do.

Koala, how is the game running on your laptop? Does it move as fast as the trailer and playthrough videos I posted?
I hope it runs faster than Tomb of Twelve, but if not, let me know, thanks!

Exactly, cheat codes are for those who like to dominate (and easily beat the game). I like cheat codes. (I am aware I've already said that. )
