Have i returned?

Non-platform specific questions.

My goals for the project are to release it to as many platforms as we can. For ios, I'd say we should target retina (ios normally being the lowest res), so the player being around 140 pixels tall or so. For anyone working on art, we should keep the source images relatively larger than the versions for the game, that way we can always upscale the graphics for tablet or other. Anyway, here is the same image sized for sprites. On another note, my brother says he'll help with the game graphics and concept.

probably better if we only have one person make changes to the design document so everything is precisely what we agree on.

i got work here in a minute but after that i'll start prototyping some of the systems that'll be used in the game!

Don't be too hasty, it'd be impossible to agree on a finished character if there isn't even a design doc yet. I suggest we figure out who the character really is and what he's doing before we start making the graphics. :)

That's just me, I don't want to sound like I'm hindering progress. I do like what's been come up with so far.

I like how the character is divided in little pieces. That will make it much easier to animate.

Once I get home I'll post some of my steampunk drawings from another project for mine if anyone would like. It looks like concept art is pretty well handled so, I'm likely to help with animation if need be.

if anything we need to take time on the beginning stages of design so we dont have a rushed mess!
also because were trying to gather a team which has never worked together before, it'll only be natural to not rush this project or our teamwork and learning to work together could suffer.

I wrote out a mini design doc, and created the forum project subforum. http://game-editor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=12449
The document has a few of the major categories. I tried to fill most of them in with some information. Everything there is subject to change, and things will be added, and properly formatted. If the need arises, I can create an actual document for download as well.

As for the art, I think it looks a bit too bright and chibi-ish for steampunk. Also, using joints is a good idea, but you missed the elbow separation.

I don't have forum permissions for the design doc?

I really do want to help, but what can I even do. I am nowhere near your level of coding, and I can not make art well. If you can find a spot to put me in, then I will help though any way I can.

it's not about being at a certain level of programming to participate just check the design document and see if there is anywhere you can fit yourself in we would appreciate the help!

Yeah, with projects like this, we can't and shouldn't try to assign specific tasks to anyone. People really need to volunteer, as they are the ones that know how busy they are, and what they are comfortable doing. As the project develops, other positions will open up, such as the various forms of testing.
