sliding physical responce

Postby ikarus » Wed Sep 07, 2011 7:29 pm

I have an actor that at sometimes is constantly pushed into a level and I want it to slide very easily without fiction against it like oil. The main reason is that once you push it too much or too long it goes through the level. Is there any way I can get this with physical response? If not anyone have any ideas how I can get this?

That's kinda close but I think I really didn't explain well, sorry. I just don't want to give away too much until I can re-release my boxbyte demo with all the new additions lol. Okay I have an actor that on certain conditions runs away from box, the character in my game, if you haven't played it and want some idea of the context it's in the game development forum.
When this actor comes within 300 distance from box it reverses and tries to keep the distance by reversing it's velocity, but when it hits the edge of the arena it stops and keeps trying to back into it faster and faster until if you get close enough it just pushes through, so I figure if I got it to slide it should fix the issue ya know.

It might be a bit difficult for someone to help me though because I made some rudimentary steering behaviors that control the actor. Maybe I'll cook up a ged to show the code if you want that

This is very hard to understand what your problem is :) send me the ged and ill take a look at it if you like :)

just at a random guess, would putting a cap/limit on the max speed of the object that keeps pushing through the arena walls help?

Edit

or if you mean when it hits the wall it just stops moving completely then try using the same settings I have used on my example for your physical response in your game.

Edit2

your game is a little to big for me to download tonight, I have very slow internet :) send me the ged or an exe with just one resolution so I can download it :)

You know what, your suggestions made me realize I was trying to make it much more complicated then it was. The problem was that it was just trying to speed up even though it was hitting a wall, all I had to do was set it to it's average velocity when it hits the wall and bam all good. Thanks alot!

What's your resolution?
