Totally confused by 1.4 licensing

Postby Virgil » Fri Aug 13, 2010 6:22 pm

I have previously paid for a license for V 1.39. Does this cover the 1.4 version or not. There were no pop-ups to enter a license key when I ran it for the first time so I am assuming that it is licensed.(Yes/No?)
I will probably never do any commercial game production, I just enjoy making the games for fun.
So will it keep working without any future pop-ups to re-license or is it time limited?
Also is the splash screen on the exe files an indication that it is not licensed?
Can someone clear this up for me please?

The 1.3.9 is totally different then 1.40 . Once you paid for 1.39 then you can release games in all the formats it supports free or commercial.
Now the 1.40 is way different if you release a commercial game. You have to pay $1499 plus $99 dollars plus $300 dollars to release an iphone game commercially. Basically in 1.4.0 you have to spend $2000 dollars to make a commercial game.

Thanks for the reply. So I can use 1.4 freely for personal non-commercial use and the 1.39 as previously licensed for selling games. I hope I've got that right. Looks like I need to re-install 1.39 if I want to sell any games. Unlikely but a possibility.
Thanks for clearing that one up. :)

Wow, I probaly won't be selling games any time soon then.
Pie on gravy is a terrible thing. It's like the flood of 1999. On the other hand though the pebble is a terrific thing only defending itself from anything that tries to harm it. Pie on gravy is my worst enemy.

Thats wrong. You have to pay $99 for ge, $50 for the SDL license on iphone for the game. Its $149 total. Furthermore u cant compare to 1.3.9 in iphone case. 1.3.9 has no apple support.

The development effort was just huge. So if u look at the dollars I showed u its peanuts compared. If u like GE support us and buy a license.

In reality, $149 a year is not really that much. If you plan on having any success at all selling your game, you'll be able to cover it.
And that's only for iphone games - otherwise, it's just $99 for GE.
If you're not planning on selling games, you can just use the open source lisence, which is free (although if you want to buy a license anyway to support the developers I'm sure they'd appreciate it).
