Alternative Downloads For Game Editor

Postby PerrySteven » Wed Nov 25, 2015 9:51 am

Hello, I'm wondering whether there are any safe alternative downloads for game editor. I've recently read news that SourceForge has been the target of a lot of hacking attempts, where some were trying to spread ransomware and succeeded in infecting many of the files SourceForge hosts. Recently I have encountered a Windows 8 update screw-up which basically erased all the data on my machine just leaving the OS, so I lost Game Editor. The problem is that I am too afraid to risk my data by attack from ransomware and although many would tell me to just keep my antivirus updated and I would be okay that is not really the case. Ransomware signatures are changed every month by their creators and thus it's impossible to detect anything unless there is some uber scanner that is updated with all Rw signatures out there in the wild (which I doubt). I don't know whether the Game Editor zip-file has been infected or not, but although some of you may say that you recently downloaded Game Editor and nothing happened, there is also the fact that malware is very sneaky and pops up at unexpected moments.

What Game Editor version are you looking for? The most recent official version, 1.4.0? I have a copy of 1.4.0 that is downloaded years ago, I can send that to you when I get to my computer. :)

I do also have 1.4.1 and 1.4.1b. I can send those to you too, but I don't really recommend using 1.4.1 for developing yet. One of the 1.4.1 versions doesn't export and the other one has problems with file i/o, if I remember correctly. Also, remember that you can't open 1.4.1 projects in 1.4.0 or any older version of Game Editor.

Lcl, for the reverse of that, can you open older 1.4.0 projects in 1.4.1? I hope so just in case Skydereign is able to offer the official update that allows exporting and full screen or window screen within the next month or so.

Of course, GE development has always followed the rule of preserving compatibility with projects made in older versions. :)

Hello, I don't know whether you received my latest private message or not but I'm wondering whether you could give me a download link from another site other than Mediafire and Sourceforge. Sorry for being picky, but I really want to be on the safe side. I know that some may tell me that it would be ludicrous to think that a download link can be compromised in such a short amount of time, but......... these sites such as Sourceforge and Mediafire have been attacked several times, and there is quite a likely possibility of hackers to infect files even when they have just been uploaded. Softpedia and Cnet would certainly be out of the question as well, as they are such shady websites.
