Say hello to the new guy...

Postby JayB » Tue Dec 15, 2009 5:43 am

Hey guys!!!

Another newbie just stopping by to say hello :D . I downloaded GE about a week ago, a time when I didn't even know what a sprite was, and now Im hooked!!! Maybe someday I'll post a demo or something. I gotta say, with GE its pretty easy to make a game, only thing hard to understand all by yourself is scripting and C language, but Ive managed so far. I remember my first try at a game development tool, RPG Maker 2 in PS2, waaay too hard to understand :x , I didnt have a computer back then and I was young and naive and didnt have the internet to find help, so I gave up. Anyway, keep up the good work guys, lots of stuff to do and see on the site, and lots of stuff to learn from it too.

BTW, I hear makslane is responsible for the site, kuddos to him!!!

That's true, the community does seem helpful, thanks for the warm welcome. I personally have find it very easy to learn how to use GE, and most of the questions that I've had have been asked before, so I just search the forum for the answer, I do however have a question that I have not seen posted before: let's say I have a demo which has a lot of sprites and images taken from other websites and other stuff from the internet, do I have to give credit to EVERYONE responsible for the sprites and images in order to post my demo here? Will I get in trouble if I use images from other games for my games even thought I don't plan to sell my demo? Sorry if this is a newbie question.

No worries about using sprites for actual games for learning purposes. However, if you do take sprites from an individual artist, you should state it somewhere to give credit, otherwise that's unfair to him or her. So, we don't care for you to tell us where your ripped megaman sprite is from, but other art not made by you coming from an individual somewhere should be. This is not moderated on the forum though. Just apply your best judgement, that's all we care about here. Have a good one!

Hello and welcome!

I'm always interested in how people found GE. I, for instance, typed the words "Game Editor" in the search engine at "downloadjunction.com", without even knowing that this dream-software even existed.
How did you come across it?

I was actually googling phrases like "game making program" and "game creating software", stuff like that. I found a bunch of programs like RPG Toolkit, RPG Maker and Game Editor. GE was the easiest to work with and I think THE best part about it was the tutorials, they were so helpful that I immediatlely started to make games
