Mazeman! Demo

Postby pyrometal » Mon Apr 28, 2008 12:24 am

Hey guys, I worked hard lately! And I can finally release a demo for my new game, Mazeman! You'll notice some missing sound effects maybe, but thats because I'm trying to find/make some that would fit the style. This game is completely monochrome this time around and its another plateformer, very different than Gelman. This one has no dialogue and no story and is meant to stay this way, you'll see soon enough why! It would be too hard to make one up for this, let alone coordinate it! Like Gelman, there is one save slot, and your game saves everytime you complete a level (although its not very useful since there's only one of those right now). Level one is ment to be an introduction that forces you to discover the game's simple (yet confusing) mechanics by being forced into fairly "linear" obstacles. Future levels will be increasing the difficulty and will not necessarally always be very straight forward. I will also add quite a bit more "puzzle elements" in the future. I'll discuss some of those later because I do not want to ruin your discoveries! All the graphics are made in MS Paint, and the music I made in ModPlug Tracker, saved in the awesome (.IT) format. Please do leave comments!

-The keys are the Z,X and arrow keys
-Z is for jumping
-X is for shooting (not useful at this stage, will be later though!)

In game graphics, simple no?(lol)

How do you load a new game? OK, am having fun--the visuals when I die are nice. : ) Dying from hitting the overhead spikes are a little cruel but a nice touch. : )

You remind me how simple a game can be and still be a lot of fun when it's artfully done.

You keep coming out with really cool stuff...don't quit! I like this as much as gelman.
By the way, did you ever play my demo? it's in general forums-- the one that says Crusade demo.

I'm waiting for more levels!

This game is wicked fun!

I'm glad you like it DST! I'm planning on adding horizontal gravity soon too, so you'll be able to walk on on the walls! A lot of other elements will also be added as I progress the development stages, you'll see... Anyway, have a good one!

What about climb up or down a rope? Would be nice if he could walk THROUGH some walls to get an easter egg or power up at the end or find a necessary object there or just move mysteriously to a new level or unexpected dungeon area.

Thanks for the ideas! I'm building this game as I go along, and I just add whatever feels right. I did plan for some "easter eggs" but I rather not have ladders, since those are very hard to deal with in a lot of situations. I am planing on including "locked blocks" for which you need to find keys to destroy.
