I don't understand the hate. I bought GE, but I play around with GM, too. GM is a nice tool. I actually even bought one of the GM books and found it very inspiring. Now, GM only creates windows apps (I really like GEs cross platform output), but I think it helps to have a lot of experience with a variety of tools.

I have to use a lot of different programming languages and technologies at work, so maybe it's just my own experience that makes me say that. But I think that, if you use AGS or GM or something else and GE, you will get new ideas. I saw ==Kalladdolf=='s magnet on a rope demo was an idea from another tool.

Cross-pollination of ideas is a good thing. :) Polarization is bad. :x

well, the fact remains that makslane did a great job on GE and that NO ONE should just burst into this forum and leave a bunch of unjustified insults behind.

still, I think what you say is true.

Yeah... 2003... Gooood times... Oh wait... By then I was 10 years old
Honestly, I think it's pretty stupid to insult GE. I mean seriously, would you intentionaly look for someting not as good as something else to complain about? Besides, GE is AMAZING knowing that not only is it the easiest game softwear I have used, but it was made by ONE MAN! At first I thought GE was made by an entire company when I first got it. Good job Makslane!

wow, that is a long time......

also ive tried GM while i was in the search for the holy grail, which turned out to be GE.

when i was using GM, i stopped and thought, "who to the what now?"
GE is WAY easier to use, and ive seen way better stuff made with GE

GM may have more features, true, but youd need to be Einstein's twin to understand some of it,

Thats probably what they thought right before they insulted GE. (lol)
But for an honest opinion:
GM; its an ok software.

If you dont want to learn anything about the actual codes used to make games, then go right ahead and use GM. If you actually want to learn the scripts behind great games (like the sims 2! The sims 2 was made with c++), then use GE. I think you can do just about the same things with GE and GM, however, you cant disagree that GE has a way better format, and better layout than GM. Plus, the only restraint that GE has for users with an unpurchased product is the watermark, and with GM, you HAVE to purchase it before you use most of the actions and events.

So there you have it. GE is much less restraining, and allows you to actually write c++ scripts.
GM is a CHEAP SKATE RIP OFF!!!! (just kidding) GM is a much more... oh whats the word... restraining (I hate to be repetative) software until you purchase it. And, from what I observed from the demo product, GM doesnt take any scripting (like i said, thats what I saw from the demo), and isnt as easy to use.

THE SIMS WAS MADE WITH C++?!?!? I wonder if someone could take those scripts and somehow put it into GE? That gefox guy was the first to make a 3D game with GE! That could possibaly revolutionize ge forever! It would be cool to see a 3D game design with a GE/anim8or layout. But for now I'll stick with GE.

First, C++ != C#, in case there was any confusion.

C++ was developed by Bjarne Stroustrup as an object oriented derivative of C. You can compile C programs with a C++ complier, usually. That shows C++ lineage. But C++ brings many bonus features like OO and template or meta programming. C++ compiles to machine code, like C.

C# is a .NET language developed by Microsoft which is more like Java in many ways. C# compiles to CLR which is analogous to Java Byte Code. They both need an interpreter to execute on a machine.

What a crappy thread to keep alive, "ge sucks x10" with 1200 views. (guilty)

This could possibaly be the oldest newly bumped and contraversal topic in the history of GE! HORAY!!! And that's a pretty good description of C++ :D
