My first game! (in progress)

Postby Toasterman » Thu Oct 14, 2010 2:00 am

Hello, I have made a remake of the classic Mega Man series (or attempted to, anyway).
This is the first game I've posted. I would really appreciate any feedback and/or suggestions.

Also, I'm trying out this media-fire deal, so tell me if the download doesn't work right or is missing something.

Here are the two files: http://www.mediafire.com/?0gtf884ztzvrzlx and http://www.mediafire.com/?uzvq5n3w8au3d5w
Let me know what you think! :D (it's a work in progress- I'm only half done with the level and it doesn't have all the enemies it will eventually contain)

the controls are:
"A" and "D" move right and left, "W" jumps, and "SPACE" fires

Hey! I've got okayish internet now! Now I can try all those cool demos I've seen!

Verrry nice.
Was curious why couldn't megaman jump off the platform? I never really played the old games but I presume always had movement control unless in a cinematic.

I ran into a glitch.
While in boss area I was just hoppin around seeing if I could fire beyond 3 shots in anyway when I ended up I presume outa bounds...

See attached pic...
lol just tried to move and jump out... I lost hp some how and died lol. no clear button that caused it.

Might wanna look into the collision. I was falling down from a jump when I slipped in behind the door. Seems GE has a lil trouble if angled collisions.

Anyway. Good start =)

found the enemy spawn... combat seems good.
I was experimenting with turning mid air and animation doesn't always turn with me... so when I'd shoot while turning mid air might look like I'm poopin bullets instead =P

Actually now that i tried it more it's pretty good... it's a rare glitch =P

And while doin that ran into another small collision glitch area... I almost fell through the ground entirely I think but once I stopped moving it locked me and slow pushed me up and out.

See pics. =3...

like the sound and detail. mountain was impressive along with the smoke and shaking... was expecting falling rocks/fireballs xD

EDIT: For sake of not spamming more posts...

Yeah if I try doors easy to get through.
Nice heard explosion and volcano gone xD that a feature? just checkin.

oh up arrow key drains health lol... maybe just ignore earlier post about that i was losin health some how...

any fell past elevator without jumpin on... so yeah... keep up good work. I'm here if u need testing xD

I first pressed arrow keys by accident and they took life from me. Why have you done it?? :P
But this is quite good for a first try still. :D

Okay, first off, thanks for the responses. :)
Most of these problems I was aware of but didn't feel like (or didn't know how) to fix:

1) You don't have controls on the elevator lift deal because you could otherwise walk off it and that causes problems with the view (this is just temporary, I'll fix that later). Also, I was experiencing some odd glitches with collisions on the lift that I didn't know how to fix, so I just covered it up for now.

2) It is actually possible to walk through most of the walls if you hold down two keys at that same time and do some other stuff- this is, as you said, probably a problem the program has with collisions on multiple sides. To be safe, just make sure you let go of the current key (left and right keys) before pressing another one, at least until I get around to fixing that.

3) The animation doesn't keep up with shooting and what not perfectly, but I think it is decent enough- mostly it has problems when lots of stuff is happening

4) The arrow keys do drain your health in different increments- I just had that in there for testing purposes and forgot to take it out- probably should have put that on less natural keys, like the semicolon key- so people wouldn't accidentally press it.

Anyway, the level isn't done. I plan on having a sort of tropical kind of theme in the beginning, with the volcano inactive.
Then you will enter a facility (probably ending up being some sort of geothermal facility or something) which will have alarms and security cannons etc.
After fighting a mini boss and exiting the base (during which time the volcano will erupt) you will traverse a barren, hostile enviroment with falling lava, lava flows, fire, burning trees, more enemies, and an eventual boss fight.

I'm pretty busy with school and stuff now, but I expect to update the game in about a week or so- adding more of the level, a mini boss, more to the facility and good stuff like that :D
