Octopus Game (Tempory Title)

Postby Turon » Tue Jul 16, 2013 3:38 pm

I have now begun on my first Platform game for a long long time.
Unlike like my previous projects this does not use a mario gameplay,
the game you see here is original.

You can hang and climb all cliffs except the ones with an angry face on.
There are two enemies here one that bounces and another that walks into the Player.

Skydereign and Grynde Helped a little with the codes and the rest I figured out or researched independently to find the answer.

If you have any suggestion about the gameplay or graphics let me know.

-Edit-
This is the earliest form of the game and you are very much welcome to play but if you want to see a later version go here

Pretty neat game, I like the concept and the overall style. :)

Only two things that bothered me:

  1. It's a little weird to hold up+right arrow to climb the wall, I might suggest making it just up arrow.
  2. I can't climb up the wall on the other side. Not sure if intentional, but it seems a little buggy.

You got a good start on this though, keep it up!

Yes it is a little buggy but its a new gameplay and as with most new gameplays it will be a little buggy.
You can't climb up the red blocks, there are quite a few bugs but I have never fixed a bug before.
Edit
Come to think of it I did fix a few bugs before.
What sort of bug are you finding?

Fun mechanic! I like the idea.

I would recommend a hitbox for your player that is created when you do the attack, otherwise you take damage when you hit the enemy.

Also, try a different view method a la
(in view's draw actor)
Code: Select all
view.x=Player.x-(.5*view.width);
Playing a game is the voluntary attempt to overcome unnecessary obstacles.

Okay... but what plan to do with the video,

Huh, For some reason I can climb both sides of the wall now. (I wasn't climbing the red blocks. I climbed over the first wall, and then tried to go back over it the other way.) sort of odd actually.
But I am still getting a few odd behaviors, like if I continue to hold the climbing buttons after I left the wall, the octopus stays in a vertical position.
Also the view doesn't seem to go backwards.

Anyways.

Yeah, your pixel art is certainly a lot nicer/cleaner looking than your older projects. You've got a good start, so keep it up okay? :D

So you like the colors scene?
I am sorry, I was really just trying to make an 8bit sort of game and to make the colors more like the nes colour pallet
so I just changes the colors around and I would like to know what you think of it.
If enough people don't like the color scene a might consider changing it back as I can always do that.
