Pyro's Secret Game Progress Thread

Postby pyrometal » Mon Oct 20, 2008 2:36 am

I'm currently working on an epic project. I am creating this thread in order to motivate myself into actually finishing something I've started. The strategy is to let everyone know how much progress is being made to obligate myself to you guys. This way, I have a better chance to succeed. I will not give revealing details on what the game will be about, but will update THIS FIRST POST on a regular basis to let everyone know what I've accomplished, what I'm currently doing, and what is to be done soon after. You do not have to reply to this post, but if you want to leave comments, feel free to do so!

MY OBJECTIVES:
- Use all I've learned from my previous attempts to create something worth playing
- Improve my spriting skills to a new level.
- Create a captivating storyline.
- Fully design my own collision system (No more PhysicalResponse(); etc.)
- Implement DIALOGUE 2.5 engine as a fully functional unit in a game.
- Loading external levels from text files.

PROGRESS:
Not Started - In Progress - Done!

- Splash Screen (100%)
- Main Menu (100%)
- Implement DIALOGUE 2.5 (90%)
- Introduction dialogue (100%)
- Create a Map Builder application (100%)
- Design of Main Character (100%)(Current avatar)
- Character Movements (100%)
- Loading Maps in-game (60%)
- Custom Collision System (95%)(With angular plateforms!)
- Map Wrapping (100%)
- Inverted Gravity (100%)
- Program Weapons (0%)
- Program Enemies (0%)
- Design a world/story (0%)

Thanks Feral! This means a lot to me. But I doubt I can finish this within 21 days, lol. Otherwise, I accept your dare! Prepare to see a full game appear sometime in the future, even if that is a few months... lol. Development will unfortunately be slower this week due to my workload building up... ttyl!

To Kall: Actually I'm not very far at all yet, I need to build everything in the game too, not just a menu... lol. So far it looks awesome, but I'm already seeing some future problems already which I need to solve. ttyl!

Cool stuff! I'll be awaiting to see this game of yours when it is done! As for giving more info, not quite yet... I do not want to annouce something I might end up not doing. Keep looking at the first post of this thread from time to time, see what's been added, maybe you can guess stuff from it!

You now have a small preview, which is my avatar! He shall be the main character, his name is Pyro! lol, that is all a strategy to help me finish this game, by making the main character like myself slightly, I will be more motivated to finish it! Also, look at the first post to see the current stages being made/thought of.

That's pretty much what I'm doing actually! I created a tool to make areas, edit them, etc. The files are saved in the .room format which I created, lol. Levels are built in game from this data by linking areas internally to other ones, with a special "door-warping" function.

I had a title, but the planned style changed and its no longer valid... I need to find a new title, but that'll be for later since I need to create the plot. When that is done, an appropriate title will be much easier to create. I still have to finish the engine though, although its coming along just fine. Right now I'm fixing a bug with the "door warping" and loading area custom objects. ttyl all!
