Yeah if you know how to program, you can pick up just about any game creation software and do great things with it. But if you don't, you gotta start with a friendly program.
I like GE because it has taught me how to program, and unlike many others out there, GE uses C scripting, a real language, so what i learn will help me with anything I decide to do in the future, programmingwise.
Many of the other 'beginner' softwares out there use a custom scripting language, so if you ever go to a different software, you have to relearn everything. That's no good!
