Futuro Bionica - Project Log

Postby SirAz » Fri Oct 01, 2010 11:06 pm

Oh Hi,

Just got my beginning project of the ground. Decided i'd post a series of WIP shots and info to keep track of things. This is my first entry of Pre-alpha level work and to be honest I'm enjoying the flexibility of Game Editor a great deal. I've also dabbled with Games Factory (I built a primitive version of the tile generation code used here for that) and RPG maker xp+ vista.
Anyway, the game is Futuro Bionica, a post-cyberpunk styled RPG set in France and Japan, based on the effects of electronic implants in human beings. Big influences are (of course) the Deus Ex Series and Ghost in The shell, as well as Gilgamesh and post-depression America.

A picture says 1000 words though, so here. Got the level building code, multiple coice dialogues, movement (based for Iphone touch) and WIP textures in place.

Most of the textures for the tiles are placeholders picked up from free resource sites, so if you see something familiar it'll be gone as soon as i've painted up the replacement.
Anyway, more shots posted very soon, as still working on new tiles. Big thanks to Bee-Ant & Krenisis for amazing tutorials. Really helped me get the feel of the software.

Thanks Chai!

Okay, finished all tileset with basic replacements. Everything you see here is my own work now. Still working on getting a sense of scale and that "anime" look.

If you want a more manga style look, you can try making his legs longer and making his hair more spiked  :D :D :D

Other than that, looks cool :D

Nice! He's a grizzled ex-cop, who solves cases with FIREBALLS!

Seriously tho, I'm going for a Full Metal Alchemist look, crossed with the guy from OldBoy with holographic sunglasses. Anyway, I'm working on a new HUD element for Inventory or Upgrades, so more soon.
Cheers.

Futuro Bionica - Project Log

Postby SirAz » Mon Oct 11, 2010 10:06 pm

Okay. Been a while since my last update, as been busy at work. No new screenshots yet :( but gonna get you one when the first map is finished. It's an apartment complex in Kyoto, Japan, with plenty of parked cars, graffiti and random people to talk to. I'm working on some character sketches which I'll also upload, when I can get access to a scanner.

On another note, is there any way to load text files that aren't in the main folder? Like a "/maps" file. Tried to do this the way I would in quake or NWN (i.e maps/TEST.DAT) but didn't work. I just wanted all the maps to be held in another DATA folder, just to be tidy really.

Anyway, thanks for the views. This'll be my first game to go public, so i'll get a demo ready for anyone who wants to have a go.

Nothing much new yet, redesigned the look of the interface though. Redone some textures and started building the first level, with a few people dotted around to talk to. More soon, just posted this as happy to got something done

For those keeping an eye on my project I have some bad news. I'm writing this on a friend's laptop as mine has wiped it's entire memory. :(

I have no idea why this has happened.

This means that unfortunately all progress on Bionica has been lost. Most of it was just in a testing state so should be easy enough to start again from scratch, but until i get my laptop or tower back together I probably won't be getting much work done.

The good news is that I should be getting lots done in the new year. Anyway, thanks for all the support and amazing tutorials everyone put together. You haven't seen the last of Bionica, trust me/////

SirAz;

Computer crashed, That's the worst thing and I'm afraid the most.
I'm so sorry to hear that.
Hopefully, you will continue your great work soon.
