Dear Game Editor forumers and friends!
This has been a blessed 11 months I have spent in the Game Editor forums, and I must say, I have really enjoyed this company. The Game Editor forums were the first, and sofar the only forums I have registered to and attended about regularly. I have basically learned a programming language, C here, and learned about a concept to building programs. It has been very useful for me, and I offer Game Editor to all!
I'm posting yet in a sad topic. I'm anouncing this: I'm resigning from the forums and the use of Game Editor. The reasons I am leaving are not in Game Editor, neither are they in the forums.
First of all I want to become some engineer: either structural, mechanical or software. I've got to know the software very much; I know 2 programming languages and I have 3 development environments installed on my computer, if I count GE as such also. I'd also want you to understand that my country's educational system is strict. I'm in basically one of the best secondary schools of the country, with its strength being science. I have plans, and I plan to achieve. I have schoolwork, and I do many things outside of school, programming being one of these extra-curricular activities, besides piano.
There is a point where you want to do so many things in 24 hours, but you can't. I have to be smart with which things I do and which I don't. Game Editor simply has to drop out of the schedule. I haven't done any programming in Game Editor since school has started again anyway. Also I must continue with something that will count, and show real knowledge of a professional tool used widely. I have 2 of such: Delphi and Visual Studio. I continue with those.
It may be confusing for some, that I leave because of something totally unrelated... I yet have a few other reasons to make this clear for those who it isn't clear for yet. My only game with Game Editor has been Squareland Wars, which was not successful, due to all the bugs. This was back in April-May, but this year. I wasn't discouraged, and I still ain't. I've started working on a better sequel within a month; Squareland Wars 2. But this project, I planned to release in August has been the real failure. I had to restart it in June, due to GE slowdown issues, delete 12000 clones one by one (to keep the menu), then I started working from the basics again, but found problems I couldn't solve: a struct's variable couldn't be used, actions disappearing somewhere along the route.... Altogether, I still don't have 1 fully functional level working, even if I exclude AI, and saving functions...
At this point I stop and think: where is the very root of the problem? I don't know, and come to realize, that even though now I could look into GE codes, and maybe find where the problem originates, it is just not worth it. It is easier to migrate to Delphi or Visual Studio, and save the time so I can also do plenty of physics extra, since that's what I need for the other engineering fields, besides the universal requirement of maths.
Altogether I'd like to say that I was very happy to be a part of this community, and I'm not saying this is my last post, simply I will not be around really. I may occasionaly return, maybe help a few newbs now and then, but that'll be a rare occasion, and I plan to continue.
I still offer GE to everyone, because it is great for a start, and it really does has a friendly, helpful community that comes with it, that is of worth that can't be payed in any currency.
Best regards, and good luck for all;
Sean
