Hack protection?

Postby Waluigiftw » Thu Feb 17, 2011 1:52 am

I just have a small easy to answer question;
-Since the games we make are made by us and we use common non-encrypted variables, its very easy to hack these games and things like health and stuff, so if someone had a contest for the best score or finish time the hacker would win, so is there a way to prevent this type of hacking?
Im just wondering because if GE does gain support for online or even just LAN (with hamachi possibly ;)) we are going to need to stop people from cheating.
As of right now its not that big of a deal to me, but i do hack my own games to test stability and see just how easy it is to hack (which it is)

You could encrypt the code to stop hex editing but as with all online games theres always someone that tries to cheat and spoil it so its very important you make the clientside files safe from them.

Well, anyone who knows how to use cheatengine can easily defeat our hours of programming.

Asprotect is very strong in protecting executable files. Sorry, your right. GE tries to read data from the second part of the exefile.
No chance when its encrypted. So the only way do this is to have engine and .dat file seperately. Then you can protect the engine
and datfile is encrypted by ge anyway.

Question: Why do you need this? GE files are encrypted by default.

I dont REALLY need it, i was just wondering about how we could stop people from doing it IF someone made a large commercial game with benefits for playing well, because in that situation, hacking will definitely become a big problem, especially if its done with something as simple yet helpful as cheat engine
