Time for some nostalgia!

Postby lcl » Fri Feb 07, 2014 8:13 pm

I was playing DST's excellent game "Christmas Quest" and while playing I looked back to the times I started using GE and remembered that one game that made me amazed.

Pyrometal's Gelman was the first game ever to make me say: "Is this really done in GE? "
Later on I've said that many times, since it often surprises me to see what people are able to do with this powerful program. :D
But yeah, Gelman was the first GE-made game to make me gasp for breath as I was stunned by how smoothly it played and how awesome all the elements of the gameplay were.

It's time for you to look back to the times when you started using GE. What was that one game for you? :D

Yeah, Winter Blast was also amazing! Though I never managed to complete it 100 %... And in WB2 I didn't even get the first objective done xD

For me, definitely Winter Blast, as soon as I played it, I though that GE would cost money because I couldn't put my head around how such an awesome game could be made with a free tool. I came just as GE 1.4 came out, so I got to get it right as the program itself was free.

Haha
But you know, I felt the same way when I first saw gefox raycasting engine for GE. It's the one that Sabre 1.0 is built on :D

It is probably obvious based on context, but since my mind refuses to process information right now, I have to ask, which game? :P

First game I've ever played, Winter Blast... It was awesome! I also played Sonic: Empire of Nightmares, which was also fun! Good times....
Currently: Semi-Active.
Working on: Maybe putting my test games in gamejolt, polishing them a bit, but I still don't know when.

Only 22? It's supposed to run a stable 32, and that's what it achieves on my laptop. Image Well, happily 22 isn't that bad either.. But well, yeah at least it's way more powerful than the original gefox was.

Winter Blast. And yup, that was obvious based on context in my opinion at least. That's why I didn't mention it xD
Speaking of which (I mean Winter Blast (this one's for you NoH  )) I'm a little confused now that I've been trying to play it again.
I can't get my metal hammer repaired, the boss fights often seem to glitch.. Once Snew just disappeared when I beat him and I had to force close and fight him again. Another time there spawned two Snews and I was able to slay the other of them with a single hit. Then the dialog popped up and after it the another Snew just wandered around without weapons and seemed unable to hurt me. I then kicked his butt (TMNT, anyone?). I can't see anyone else having had these problems with the game, and that makes me a little confused. But anyway the graphics and the music and the overall feel of the game (Winter Blast  ) are awesome.

Image I tried that game again yesterday, after seeing this post of yours. But it was too difficult for me.. (I suck at Winter Blast and also in this game... am I really that bad in video games? xD)

Haha Image It seems Winter Blast is the game holding the biggest nostalgia value for most of the users Image
Empire of Nightmares is also fantastic! Personally I think it is one of the best games ever made with Game Editor. And its sequel, Sonic Velocity seemed even better. Too bad the development of that game seems to have died.

I believe I had glitchy problems such as those stated as well when I played Winter Blast. I don't know what the problem is, as it seemed like only me and you had these problems.
