Relay

Relay.png

This is a project I started working on at the time of the Februari tournament. The theme was rotation.
The demo you see here I made in less than a week. (I think it were 4 evenings)

I am just posting this to show that working for a tournament does push you to think and act faster ... :D

The controls:
Left / right arrows: move left / right
Up / down arrows: change player
Right ctrl: Roll (makes you move faster)
Edit:Space: jump

The goal of the game is reach as far as possible.
But when you walk/run/roll your player gets tired.
When the player is not selected he rests, and his fitness level rises.

There is not much of a level yet, but hey ... this was made in just a few days

Edit:Changed the linux file - hope this one works

Could you possibly make the windows file an exe too?

Hey, this game has potential! The rolling animation and concept is awesome. Are you still working on it? :)
Currently: Semi-Active.
Working on: Maybe putting my test games in gamejolt, polishing them a bit, but I still don't know when.

Yeah, like I said: when you enter a tournament you are forced to work even faster. Especially if you enter when there are only 10 days left. I wish I could have worked on it a bit more at the time an actually enter it in the tourny.
For the graphics I limited myself to use as few colors as possible. And I made the player only 16 pixel tall, so I could make the animations faster.

No, I can't. I ran into a bug with the text actor, so I used the latest beta version. When I export to windows nothing happens, so I think the exporter doesn't work in that version.
When I open the .ged in the first beta of 1.4.1 I get a lot of animation bugs ... so exporting using that build is not an option.

Not at the moment, because I want to finally finish level 2 of Pharaoh's Secret Chamber. I aimed to have the level finished before the end of February. But now we are almost two months past my deadline, and I still only have about 80% of the level finished. (That's what happens when you are not working on it during a tournament :? )
But when that is finished I want to pick up this project again :)

The Linux exe does not work.
It shows the same behaviour, as if you try to open GE outside its directory, i.e. an empty
window flashes on shortly, and then disappears.

Cheers !

Can't wait for both of them to be done, but don't rush yourself! Keep it up. :)

This game seems very cool and the idea is great! I would like to get to play this game, if you could make some levels to it :D
Also I have to say that I don't like the controls. Combining Space and Right Ctrl is not the best choice for controls.
You could of course add the option for users to be able to define their own controls. :)

Great, now it works !

But why are the players running like pushing anything, when there is nothing in
front of them ?
Did you plan to introduce boxes or blocks to push ?

Cheers !

There is nothing to push. In fact they are not pushing, just running.
Like in this example

Ah, ok. First, when I saw him running, I automatically looked behind him, to see,
from what he was fleeing ! And then, I looked in front of him, wondering, what he
was pushing ...
Of course, in the real "running away, crying"-animation, the arms had to be up to
the sky.

When you are planning, to work furthermore on this game, why not making another
"running"-animation, and giving him something to use his "pushing"-animation with ?
And maybe, a special kind of terrain, only passable using the "rotating"-animation ?

I like the simple graphic style, where the objects/player are melting together with
the ground, it reminds me at "La Linea" !

Keep on with this work, and also with the Secret Chamber, which is the most promising
game project here on the forum, imo !
Make it epic, the outstanding graphics are earning it !

Cheers !

Looks cool Hares. 4 days, that is a quick turnaround time for developing a smaller game. Great job.
Reminds me of the look of N+ the game, cool. 8)

Will this be available to test out on all platforms, PC, Mac, Linux eventually? Thanks.
