New Project/Ideas for a ship construction system

Hey Everyone, I haven't been on here lately, but I'm deciding to start up a new game project. This one will involve a shooter style of play, along with a few other things I want to try out. The crucial gameplay feature I want to try is a construction system. The ship would be on a grid, with a central immovable piece, and parts could be put on the top, bottom, left, and right. The construction system would be very similar to an rpg equip system or a pipe game (in fact the pieces I have in mind would look like pipes). If anyone has any ideas or tips for designing a ship system like this, please post here. :mrgreen:

Well, I made a little project similar to this a while back. I didn't mean much of it, so I never finished it, but I fully built the save and load feature. It had several types of pieces, wings, cockpit, blasters, thrusters, and more. If you want to take a look at it, I am willing to post the ged. The ship layout had four layers, each layer about 10x10, I think. It was pretty cool, I had some fun with it. I could find it if you want to take a look. I stopped making it, as I picked up a bigger project, as this one was just me messing around. It isn't great, as I worked on it for 2 days, but it is pretty much exactly what you are thinking of making, maybe a few altercations.

I'll take a look at it, thanks. The game will also have a bit of an economic section to the actual flying around, and I've already figured out the standard types of parts
4way- power generators/cockpit
2way horizontal- engines
2way vertical- weapons
2way corners- Shields, time disrupt, etc
stopper- cargo, passengers, quest items, etc.
These are the general ideas I have, but if you post the file I'll see what I can use from it. Thanks a lot! :mrgreen:
