Screwed up stats

Postby willg101 » Mon May 01, 2006 10:04 pm

Lately, I've been tracking my downloads of Sparkles. After its latest release, I have had over 1,200 downloads. At first, I was extremely happy about it. But now I realize something is definately wrong. I started with an average of 1/4 people who see my game download it. Then it slowly went up to 1/2 people. With its latest relase it went from 54/100 to 58/100 to 63/100 to 68/100 and so on. Yesterday I started getting a little suspicious becuase it got all the way up 93/100. Today I signed on and now there are more downloads than views. Anyone know what could've happened??

Depends on how you are monitoring Sparkles - is the same counter checking page hits and downloads? And is it possible that someone has linked directly to the Sparkles download, bypassing your page-hit counter?

Alternatively, everyone likes it so much, they downloaded two copies of it. Nice work, btw. It's a very pleasant game.

Thanks!

I'll look into it more, and tell you what I come up with.

Just as a further thought - your link to "Sparkles" on this forum bypasses your webpage. I downloaded your game without visiting your website, from your post "Sparkles Beta" on this forum, so wouldn't have registered on any hit counter attached to the download page on your website.

If enough people did the same as me, then that'd alter the weighting of your stat counter.

this actually has nothing to do with your webstats but I have found a bug in your game or a bug in ge whatever the case...

Look at this picture:

Image

if the code works..

You can see that the bar that gives you points seems to have followed both axis, instead of just the x axis...

Hmm.. another bug:

The time has deleted it self... thats why i have a good score I think...
