Postby Morpheas » Thu Feb 23, 2012 4:42 pm

hi new member here.
if u want to sell ur game through lets say ex. steam for PC only.do u need to buy the Express license?
only for PC.

after the above is answered can u tell me if u buy the Express license do u need to buy also the ios license from apple?the one that costs i think 99$per year
or by buying the Express license u don't need anything else and u can go to iTunes etc.?

1 last question is about GE 1.5
when its coming out? any news? February i think was coming out.
and what about licenses changes with the 1.5?

I doubt you can sell GE games through Steam. I'm not exactly sure how Steam works, so maybe this is not true. But I'm pretty sure steams requires you to implement some sort of system in your source code that allows only steam to run the game. Though I may be wrong.

Licensing information for 1.5 is being worked out, and when everything is all finished it will be released. Currently if you plan to sell your game anywhere you need to have at least an express license.

The express license gives you the ability to sell your games, it doesn't however cover costs to upload your game onto any store. So in apple's case you have to pay $100 to be a ios developer, before you can consider selling your games on their store, which means you have to buy the gE express license as well as pay apple to be an ios developer.

One of the main requirements for gE is that updates must be able to run older games. So the real 1.5 release will be able to play any 1.4 or previous game. But, 1.4 of course is not able to load 1.5 games. Now as for the 1.4 to 1.5 express license I can't guarantee anything but I'll ask makslane and akr (it's still being worked out). From what I skimmed just now the current license does not say you are entitled to any updates, and since the 1.5 licenses are likely to be different I wouldn't count on getting the update. Though makslane has usually allowed for 1 year of free updates (but due to the new platforms this may not be the case anymore). Due to all of this I'd recommend only getting the license when you are ready to use it, which hopefully will give enough time for this to clear itself up.
