Hello Maxslane :)
I did proposed that to you before ( and you probably have already thought about that for the new GE ).
A 320 x 240 PPC view doesn't work if you want to create an horizontal PPC game. I mean the actors are not rotated automatically in the PPC view ( unless you do it yourself ). Are there some changes proposed in that field?

Does Game Editor allow you to insert AVI (movies)? If not, that would be one I'd suggest to put on the list of possibilities for the future. Maybe not the most immediate need, and I would guess can be approximated using sprite animation instead. Just a feature found in programs like Multimedia Fusion which is similiar to Flash but also used to make 2D games.

improving game editor

Postby Sindarin » Mon Dec 06, 2004 5:13 pm

I am using Game maker over 3 years and I just used game editor.
I like some things but I just dislike others.

I 'll start with the bad stuff..
What I dislike:

-The orange menus interface,after I use ge for a while, my eyes hurt.
please make it color customizable.

-There are no stages,all the actors are placed on a single stage..
Make stages so to make things more practical.

-The price is just too high for the program at the state that it is right now.
(In that way game maker should be sold for 500$+! :shock: )
Please lower the price to at least 50 $.

-The default graphic for the actors (yeah,that pacman thing..)
please change it to a sphere or something... it's just silly (..sorry :( )

What I like:

-The different system porting

I am interested in making games for PC but I am now also interested for making games for pocket pc (with ge)

My Game Editor Wishlist:

-Add ability to create directories (folders)
-Add ability to save and load the game from whatever directory I want.
-Make a more easier way to save/load the game
-Make the "Continue game" and "Exit" messages that appear on pocket pc
editable.
-Make ability to read/write text and variable values to text files on whatever directory I want.
-Add an action to Minimize the Window.
-Add an option in Game Config to Disable the Windows Keys (Start Key L&R)while the game is running (Is just too annoying to press the key and popup the start menu while playing.)
-better ge help file.(including C language)
-Ability to play/stop/pause audio CD and check if cd exists.
-Ability to open a website in the default browser.
-Ability to switch resolution in-game.

I hope I helped you make a better game editor.
Kio :roll:

My useful piece of advice:
Use game maker for your pc games
Use game editor for your pocket pc games
Use flash for your websites

supported features

Postby sep » Sun Dec 12, 2004 8:49 am

I think the most usefull would be support of these features

- easy use of some video format (avi, wmv) ... remmember old games ... bad graphics/nice cinematics :)

- support of palmos ... the market is huge

- any sort of multiplayer...network, bluetooth, email ....imagine the possibilities of making bt arcade for two players!!!

The possibility to insert the x and y coordinates of an actor in workspace (ex by having a changeable x or y insert area in viewport where we can write the exact coordinates we would like our actor to have), without having to do it with Script editor 8)

- Detailed online manual;
- OPenGL support;
- I18n (multi language support);
- OGDC - Online game development community (not just a forum);
- Better UI (Project manager, lib browser, etc) like Blender (3D App);
- Undo/redo (Script editor);

Dang! You're right...

Hey! A (ahamm... free?) code editor (with functions) will be nice too.

The ability to Copy/Paste common Actions to different actors, ie " I can copy a Collision or Script action of an actor A and paste it to another actor B"
