More simple events

Postby elite » Wed Oct 10, 2007 11:59 pm

Ok theres a map editing tool that comes with Warcraft 3, If any of you have seen it, you would have seen how easy it is to make triggers and events.
Its kinda like this
Event
"Unit" enters "region 01"
Action
Kill "entering unit"

BTW unit in warcraft is the same as an actor in GE
All the words with "thingies around them can be selected from a massive drop down list.

twigser :D
after reading this you have just realized you have wasted 5 seconds of your life.

yeah, but it's like only for one specific type of game. for example if u wanna "kill" something in GE, if u have a tank: BOOM! The tank explodes, of a simple soldier: blood all over the place. But what if u wanna create a game like Super Mario: the killed goomba isn't supposed to explode, nor spill blood, but simply fall out of the screen. Get, what I'm saying? U can do like EVERYTHING with GE, not just a war game. Of course makslane could add some templates, for certain type of a game, but I don't know if he would wanna do that.
By the way, if u kill something in GE, it couldn't be more simple:
for example:
soldier-> collision-> any side of bullet-> Destroy actor
__
Destroy actor event-> create actor -> soldier_dying //with an animation of a dying soldier
because of the many many possibilities of GE, it can't be just as simple as "kill".
Maybe there is still a way to make some actions more simple, but I'm satisfied at the moment
:D

Another reason why you wouldnt want simpler events is, as in the words of fuzzy, eh hem... "it would be cripling to our programming skills". I like to repeat that phrase  .

Funny but GE actual has that exact function you mentioned in the beginning of the post. A filled region is an actor you can create. Click add actor and then change the Normal to Filled region, or activation reagion. Ge is the simplest thing there is for pocket pc programming.
