Actor Control --> Tile

Postby Just4Fun » Thu Mar 18, 2004 5:35 am

I don't understand this feature. How is it used and for what type of application?

Is it good for card games?
Is it more for games like the old Donkey Kong?
Can tiles be separate animations and addressed separately but with same events and actions? Like Clones but with different animation?

Are there any demos of Tile use?

I couldn't locate much info in the forum or in the docs. I'm Confused. :?: TIA
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.

You set a animation that contains all of the tiles you want. Then you can hit tile(single) and then when your drawing with it the L and R keys change what image it is. So have an animation with all of the "ground level" png's or whatever and then you can just click where you want each one and create your game map, or whatever use you use it for. I have no idea what the matching tile does.....

1) Load the tutorials/moveView4.ged
2) Right button on the lake actor and go to Actor control
3) Select Tile -> Tile matching
4) Click on Draw Tile button

Look how your tile will be match with existing lake tile
You can make holes by hiting right shift

Hmmm,
Call me dense, but I still don't understand tile uses. I do understand how to make them and match them(I think). I just don't understand their purpose. Is it just for drawing background barriers (maps) for other characters?
I'm looking for something that would allow me to make a card game. Would tiles be used for Card shuffling and random placement?
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.

no i dont think so. use them for backrounds and scenery for the most part. Youd prolly want to load anaimation that contains all of the cards in the deck on each card you want displeyd, then shift around wich frame is displayed...

This hasn't been very helpful. There is no tutorial 'moveview.4' and there is no 'lake' file in any of my game editor directories. And i have more than one version installed....could someone please post an example demo for 'tile matching', or point us to a demo that uses it? This has to be, hands down, the LEAST used feature in all of GE!
