Draw maps by hand vs Tile Mapping

Talk about making games.

Do you use tile to design maps or do you draw your platformers and top downs?

Tiles, ftw!

Draw maps by hand vs Tile Mapping

Postby NUTINC » Tue Jul 20, 2010 7:48 pm

Hello, I am currently working on a game that will be one part galaga-esque shooter and another top down walk around shooter like an rpg. I am currently building maps which is taking quite a bit of time and I have problem, do I continue drawing each map by hand or use tiles? Before I continue working on this I'd like to see what others have to say. Do you use tiles or draw your maps by hand?
To those of you out there, I am not dead. I am a ghost! There is a difference!

I'd say Tiles, more chances that there is something repetitive. But if you want to keep a pretty visual aspect, you can keep it one image so you have better control of the landscape
