GE brawl

Talk about making games.

Has there been a successful full length fighting game for GE yet?

I'm currently working on something called Smash Bros GE... so far
I've made characters such as "link(zelda), Zero(megaman), luke
Skywalker(star wars), and solid snake(metal gear solid). One level
(Links level, I'm using it as a beta test level for the characters). So
Far each character has one ground attack, and one air attack. If anyone
Is interested in giving me a hand with some of the coding parts that
Would be cool :)

Just send me a PM so I can send you the .GED file.

Why is it no one can make up their own name so have to take an existing name and add something such as GE to it? Same goes for taking characters.

Yeah, that man is amazing :D

I have some pretty unique ideas but I just don't have the motivation to actually finish the project (that's why the only game I've posted is Abduction. Which wasn't even finished) XD

in case you haven't noticed, not everyone who starts using GE is a wiz at coding and an amazing artist.
A lot of people will use famous sprites and characters just so they can learn how to use game editor orany other game creating software.

And the reason people put GE in the title of their game is because they want to help advertise Game Editor.

that might be a little mean sounding the way you said it. I never use other sprites, but obviously you can see the difference between my art skills, and Nintendo's earliest art skills.

Well, Now I see.

I wasn't intending on making myself seem supierior. Not to mention Im not that great at coding and animation, and started out knowing nothing about code.

Its just that, when starting out I did analyise well known video game sprites to get ideas and think of techniques. Even as a kid before knowing game scripting, I'ld look up reaal close to the sprites and wonder how they made the sprites and game ect.

But I didn't want to make games with allready existing characters- such as making games like 'Sonic Darkness X' or something silly like that and seem like another average fan. I wanted to introduce new characters, and I woldn't have minded if they looked like garbage, the fun part was improving over time.

Though it seems people are too afraid of trying something new, so they need it to use a character we all know and love aswell as sprites. In one way thats understandable. The problem I have is that so many people do this nower days, Even after much experience they still continue to use stolen sprites.

And its kinda sad too. Thinking back; When I use to make really crappy videos featuring characters like Link and Zelda, thats when I got some sorts of attention. Ever since I introduced Sarah Kinzi and all other kinds of characters, Little to no one became intrested without having to reaallly shove it in their faces.

...Well, sorry if that seemed like ranting on.
And all that other stuff like putting GE I understand, at first I thought it was because they were too lazy to come up with a title. I might put up my old 'Fan Games' here some day.

I have expeirenced this as well my friend, I know some of the airheads on youtube only want to click on a video if it has "fail" or "dumb cat" or something gross in the title. I work on a cartoon for half a year and I only get a few views and a comment form a relative. Then, about a year later we make a really dumb video which takes about half an hour to make, and it gets like 100 views overnight! What gives! T_T

We can sure try! lol

But honestly, I agree with JamesLeo, I always try to make my own characters for whatever cartoon/game I create. You can learn a lot from making a a remake of a game, and a lot of the remakes on this forum are pretty fun. BUT, everyone has the potential to create an awesome storyline of their own. Never think an idea for a story is dumb or stupid, look at all the storyline concepts for some of the most successful games out there! Most of them are pretty dumb when you try to explain them but yet the whole world has fallen in love with them... Birds who can't fly who fall into a pile of blocks to destroy green pigs... An Italian dude who jumps on brown mushrooms and shoots fire, but only after he smashes bricks which make flowers grow.

SO, that idea in the wastebasket could possibly be the next Angry Birds.

people associate big titles to "THIS MUST BE GOOD IF NOT GREAT!" because people already know about it.
While people will be hesitant to venture into worlds they don't know yet already, that's where marketing comes into play.

Yeah, it can be funny describing the story of old video games like that.

But I can see your point. Really I don't concentrate on story atall, a back story at most. (Its worse when you have a non serious game with a silly plot that gets no attention. =/ )

For some reason I felt like remaking Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles on NES; since I've been playing it alot recently- finding its not that bad just really hard(ATM Im up to the technodrome) !

Often I underestimate the power of marketing. And yes, nobody will click it if they haven't heard of it. Sad and pathetic as well as true.

Something to add to what I said earlier regarding storyline...
What do most successful book, cartoon, movie, and story franchisees have in common? Authors/screenwriters/cartoonists usually add their own personal experiences/fantasies in their character creations. A good example is Charles Schultz. He based the character Charlie Brown off of his own childhood and was quite successful. Now obviously, I'm not saying "Copy Peanuts in a game" but, one can add very interesting elements into a story that were extracted form your day-to-day life. You never know how interesting your life is until you portray it in a fictional setting. Some things you might think are boring may be exiting to someone else.

Now, I know I'm sounding like a dumb English teacher from a lame writer's workshop, but the same can generally be applied to game stories. Some games can be quite successful without much more than a back story. It just depends whether you are making angry birds or metal gear.

Just words of encouragement if anyone is listening...

Wow, very interesting conversation!
This gave me much inspiration, and I'd like to start
designing and creating a great game right now!

I think I'll return to my very old game after I've finished my current game.
Thank you guys! :D
