I uploaded the game on its current state which is only 2 levels. It's like a small demo for you at least to play and at the same time maybe tell me what you think...

070912 - Basic structure of the platform game almost complete.
- Destructible box done. Gives energy when destroyed.

Gameplay
Progression
The progression will be linear as it will be a level to level progression. There will be 3 areas with 5 levels each and with bosses on each area. In order to proceed you need to beat all the levels and defeat the boss.
Objectives
The main objective of the game is to defeat Dark Smirky and stop his evil plans for the Land of the Smirks. In order to defeat him you must defeat the first two bosses first and proceed on defeating him.
Controls
The game will have two choices for controls, either keyboard or a controller. Keyboard controls will be implemented first then the controller if the game is finished.
Left/Right Arrow Keys - Movement
Space Bar - Jump
X key - Attack
Mechanics
Actions and combat:
The player will have direct control of Bud Smirky from moving, jumping and attacking. The combat will be player versus environment but most of the time the players will try to stay alive and not die of the obstacles on every level.
Attacking enemies is simple. As most platformers, you need to jump over the enemies to kill them or attack them on their blind spot such as an enemy that has spike in front can only be killed and attack at the back or top of its head. Collision to the enemies or falling down a hole will be a loss of life for the player.
The player will be given a number of lives to start with and will be added to it the pick-ups if the player get any. If the player dies the whole level will be restarted. There will be checkpoints on the level if the player managed to reach the checkpoint.
Pick-ups:
Pick-ups will be available on some boxes. Some boxes will be labeled to let the player know that it is a life or energy pick up.
Energy - This will be added as energy points and will be a life up when you manage to collect a hundred.
Life Up - This will add one life to the player’s life.
Key Smirky - 2 pieces of a yellow colored smirky when connect will open a path
Game World
Background Story:
Smirks live their lives as happy as they can be. They are all smiles always, as confident as they can be. One day Dark Smirky decided to remove the smirks and smiles out of the faces of his fellow Smirks. He was able to concoct a drug that will be able to remove smiles and manipulate not only the Smirks but also the other creatures.
One day Dark Smirky decided to spread the drug like a virus to the Land. Everything and everyone was affected, except one.
Coming back from his long journey was Bud Smirky. When he arrived he saw the Land has a different atmosphere and was surprised that creatures started attacking him for no reason. Now he needs to go through the Jungle, the Cave and to the City of Smirky in order to know what is happening.
Scale:
The scale of the game will not be too big as currently I am the only one creating it. There will be 3 Areas: Jungle, Cave and Smirky City. Each of the area will have 5 levels to be passed where the 5th level will be the boss of the area.
Objects:
Except from the game characters the objects that can be found in game will be the following:
- platform/tiles: all the tiles of the game will be here
- destructible boxes: the source of energy and life pick-ups
- energy pick-up
- life pick-up
- *coins: gold and bronze
- *question box / bump box
- *bump box of coins
- *falling spikes from ceiling
- *moving platform
- *moving obstacles
- *rolling boulders
Time:
There will be a countdown timer on each and every level. When the timer run’s out and the player still did not finish the level then the player will start losing coins and if the coins reaches zero then the player will lose all life and the game will be over.
Characters
Smirky
Round-like creatures that resides in the Land of Smirk. Their hands and feet floats separately to their body which also is their head. They are happy creatures. Always smiling, celebrating and enjoying their lives. They are intelligent creatures and now are on top of the intelligence chain within the land.
Bud Smirky
Bud is the main protagonist of the game. After coming back from his journey outside the Land of Smirk, he is now faced with a task of saving his own land.
*Key Smirky
once was a one set of yellow smirky who open a path for any smirky to enter the jungle but now was split into 2. They need to be combined to open a path.
Dark Smirky
One of the most intelligent Smirky and the final boss of the game. His curiosity caused him to experiment on his fellow creatures and now he has all the control of the Land.
*Red Smirky's
The less infected of all the Smirks. They are the ones who guard the Land on the outside. They are primarily stationed on the entrance of the jungle and some inside the jungle.
*Red Smirky's
The patrol of the jungle. They patrol the jungle of the land and they were harmless before the infection.
