Sonic needs SFX

Postby SuperSonic » Mon Oct 04, 2010 5:15 pm

Hey guys :D
I recently started to teach my friend the basics of making video games, and GE is the best program for newbies I can think of. Anyways were working on making PacMan, and niether of us know how to make our own sound FX :( . In other words, what I'm saying is, can anyone give me any sounds that would sound good in PacMan :?:
EG: BGM, simple sounds you would find in PacMan, & anything else
that way I can continue teaching my friend :D

We're really getting exited about this project and would really appriciate any help you guys could give us.

Thanx :D

If your looking for a easy sound effect creator, I would reccomend sfxr.
You can get some pretty decent sound effects from that, and they fit well in retro style games, like pacman :D.
Quote from the page:
Basic usage involves hitting the randomize button (or one of the other buttons to your left if you need a specific standard sound), listen to the generated sound, then deciding if it sounds ok or not. If it does, then export it to .WAV and you're done, if not - just hit the button again and get something different.

Try LMMS (Linux Multi-Media Studio)! It is NOT that difficult to learn to use at all, and comes with a large package of instruments you can use to make your own sound effects. Just google it an the link will show up ;) It's real easy to use - and it's free.
If you run on windows I'm NOT totally certain if it runs - I never checked that. So you'll need to check its requirements but I'm quite certain that it runs on Windows.
Best of luck!

No problem man - unfortunately I haven't had it very long myself, so I can't really offer any tips. There are a few good tutorials to get you started at this website, though: http://brycecoulson.com/tutorials/
They got me started on making a few tracks! :D

Oh no! :(
I'm having some problems downloading this thing :(
The problem might be the slow computer I'm using right now, or the website :?
What website did you download it from :?:

I'm back again :D
I didn't have enough time to reply back day before yesterday, but I finally got the program to download, and I think that I've kinda got the hang of it. :D
I made a really quick techno song using LMMN to test how well the program works(and it's Awsome) :D

Thanks again to BlenderFreak :D

haha no problem! Glad you like it!
I can say, though - I'm pretty sure it's just the crappy audio on my computer, but sometimes LMMS will randomly close out and when I open it up again it doesn't play sound until I reboot my whole system... it's pretty annoying. I think it's just my computer though, but if it does it to you, let me know if you find out why it happens, cause I seriously have *no* idea exactly why the problem occurs. :P
