If you could rotate or flip an image, it would be verry helpful!!

Yeah, it would be usefull, so you dont have to do all the animation.

Don't forget - transforming an image takes lots of CPU power.

meh, whatever. I've seen plenty of games that just rotate images fine...

rotating at multiples of 90 degrees is easy enough; its when you want to do say 17 degrees or some odd number that it gets slow. also, at sizes like 16x16 tiles, or even 32x32, rotated tiles dont looks so great.
